In order to promote economic growth and social development Serbia must generate and exploit new economic opportunities through the adoption of e-business practices. E-business plays an important role in advancing the Information Society for two reasons: (a) it expands the use of information and communication technology with the objective of enhancing efficiency and decreasing the cost of doing business; and (b) it increases the linkages and interdependence among computerized networks of private and public organizations involved in internal and international economic activities, thus moving from interaction of atomistic actors to an integrated system of information flow management. In this paper we examine the current state of e-business in Serbia, and try to identify the key gaps, and obstacles, for e-business implementation in a country in transition which is in less advanced position compared to Western Europe. The collected data are presented by using SWOT analysis with the view to portray the situation of e-business adoption in Serbia having in mind that this process cuts across a broad range of technical, legal, economic and institutional issues. The most important objective of this article is to point out the key technical and non-technical restraints for development of electronic business in Serbia. Electronic sale of goods and services in Serbia still represent a small fraction of business and economic activity, but in this moment in history it seems that development of electronic business activity will bring comprehensive changes to life style of the people. It is widely expected that Internet as disruptive technology in the forthcoming period will continue to change the traditional business activities, business models and business strategies in Serbia.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,0, LMU Munich (Institute for Strategy, Technology and Organisation), language: English, abstract: Motivated by a rising popularity and economic as well as political importance of the E-commerce sector, this research investigates how the high-speed broadband internet coverage and the usage intensity of people influence the share of web buyers in a country. This question is examined by studying a comprehensive panel data set covering the EU-28 member states in the period from 2003 until 2018. Findings suggest that a more widespread availability of fixed broadband internet exerts a significant positive influence on the amount of online shoppers, while mobile broad-band connectivity is found to be adversely related. Furthermore, the results claim that the more frequent internet users, the higher the national percentage of internet purchasers. These outcomes are of relevance to all stakeholders with interest to push the devel-opment of the European E-commerce sector further. Bill Gates has once predicted that the internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow. Being a vision at that time, current developments show that this statement addresses no longer only the future - it has never before described the present so suitably. Within the last years, the internet has evolved to be a central information hub for individuals and is nowadays tightly embedded into our everyday life. Information on nearly everything can be gathered from the web, a big part of social life takes place in the virtual sphere and the internet has entered the professional space a long time ago - the progressing digitalization moves a steadily increasing share of activities online. Since access to high-speed internet is vastly increasing, people get accustomed to an ubiquitous connectivity. One application of the internet that steadily gained popularity for many years now re-lates to an initial purpose of the "town square", which used to be the location of a market. Facilitated by the broad deployment of network technologies and their rapid devel-opment, companies increasingly offer their products via online channels. Consumers value the convenient shopping experience accessible around the clock and benefit from a greater variety of merchandise as well as often lower prices. Firms profit by cost savings, an augmented customer base and new sales options in return.

Business managers in developing countries would find in this volume a solid background to e-commerce at large, and to its significance within a wider framework of a resource-based view of their business and of the national economic settings within which they operate. The book is of special importance to the academic community of Internet students, as well as for those interested in economic development, by providing a pioneering insight into the issue of e-commerce in developing countries which may emerge strongly in the upcoming years. Aharon Kellerman, Growth and Change Undoubtedly an important contribution. E-commerce is a technology which holds the possibility of levelling the global trading playing field. This book provides a necessary review of current issues in e-commerce in developing economies, and a useful collection of good practice and solid theory for scholars, policymakers and professionals. John Peters, Emerald Group Publishing Limited, UK This is a road map of some of the challenges governments and companies face, in terms of physical and human infrastructure, as countries wrestle with a rapidly changing commercial environment. As the virtual world conquers ever more of the material world, countries that adapt and adopt to a cyber reality will likely do better. If you are doing business or setting policy in a developing country, you want to understand and address the issues raised in this book. Juan Enriquez, CEO, Biotechonomy, US and author of The Untied States of America and As the Future Catches You The authors of this unique volume provide a timely and valuable perspective on how technology and the Internet revolution are changing business and spurring development across the world, especially in emerging countries. Utilizing a framework grounded in rigorous theory, they provide a fine-grained understanding of electronic commerce adoption processes by public and private sector entities in developing countries. In so doing, they consider how each exchange encounter is shaped by, and in turn shapes, relational characteristics that form the basis for growth and development. Using a resource-based view of economies, the authors hypothesize that differences in the adoption of electronic commerce technologies in developing economies can be attributed to a sense-and-respond capability of governments with respect to new technologies, which they term technological opportunism . One of their main objectives is to establish the distinctiveness of technology opportunities from related constructs, such as innovativeness, and show that it offers a significantly better explanation of technology adoption and diffusion than do existing constructs. The book examines a number of developing countries experiences with electronic government, bringing real life experience to the adoption of an e-government model by looking at the issue from strategic as well as operational perspectives. The volume s ground-breaking research and conclusions will be of great interest to professionals, researchers and students in the areas of e-commerce and economic development; government officials of developing and newly industrialized countries contemplating e-government initiatives; and information technology managers.
