The argument of this book is that an anarchist society, a society which organises itself without authority, is always in existence. Through a wide-ranging analysis - drawing on examples from education, urban planning, welfare, housing, the environment, the workplace, and the family, to name but a few - Colin Ward demonstrates that the roots of anarchist practice are not so alien or quixotic as they might at first seem but lie precisely in the ways that people have always tended to organise themselves when left alone to do so.

Deep in the heart of the galaxy, an ancient, banished force lays in wait. Life has transformed for Trella. No longer bound to the old ways of her people, she seeks her place in the galaxy, only to find as her father seizes power in Andlios he may be a puppet for figures from his own past. With the help of her old friends, she must venture out further into the galaxy than she ever has before, hoping to stop the Banished before it’s too late. There’s just one problem: the Khonsu revolution finds itself besieged by the Earth Ministry. After Khonsu Station and the gate went dark, Katrijn and Jace ventured through once more, in search of Loren and their friends. What they weren’t expecting was their fragile intra-galaxy alliance hanging on by a thread as the Earth Ministry cut off Khonsu Station, looking to reclaim the station and quash the uprising before it could spread through the rest of the galaxy. From William Morris to Oscar Wilde to George Orwell left-libertarian thought has long been an important but neglected part of British cultural and political history. This work seeks to recover that indigenous anarchist tradition. It argues that a recovered anarchist tradition could be a touchstone for contemporary political radicals.

The Anarchist Imagination written by Carl Levy and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-09 with Political Science categories.
This is a broad ranging introduction to twenty-first-century anarchism which includes a wide array of theoretical approaches as well as a variety of empirical and geographical perspectives. The book demonstrates how the anarchist imagination has influenced the humanities and social sciences including anthropology, art, feminism, geography, international relations, political science, postcolonialism, and sociology. Drawing on a long historical narrative that encompasses the 'waves' of anarchist movements from the classical anarchists (1840s to 1940s), post-war wave of student, counter-cultural and workers' control anarchism of the 1960s and 1970s to the DIY politics and Temporary Autonomous Zones of the 1990s right up to the Occupy! Movement and beyond, the aim of this volume is to cover the humanities and the social sciences in an era of anarchist revival in academia. Anarchist philosophy and anarchistic methodologies have re-emerged in a range of disciplines from Organization Studies, to Law, to Political Economy to Political Theory and International Relations, and Anthropology to Cultural Studies. Anarchist approaches to freedom, democracy, ethics, violence, authority, punishment, homelessness, and the arbitration of justice have spawned a broad array of academic publications and research projects. But this volume remembers an older story, in other words, the continuous role of the anarchist imagination as muse, provocateur, goading adversary, and catalyst in the stimulation of research and creative activity in the humanities and social sciences from the middle of the nineteenth century to today. This work will be essential reading for scholars and students of anarchism, the humanities, and the social sciences.

A British Anarchist Tradition focuses on three contemporary British theorists and practitioners, Herbert Read, Colin Ward, and Alex Comfort and looks at their interrelation, commonality, and collective influence on British radical thought. The book aims to foster a greater understanding of anarchism as an intellectual response to 20th century developments and its impact on political thought and movements. For the first time, the work of these three writers is presented as a tradition, highlighting the consistency of their themes and concerns. To do so, the book shows how they addressed the problems faced by modern British society, with clear lines of political, literary, and intellectual traditions linking them. It also focuses on their contribution to the development of anarchist conceptions of freedom in the twentieth century. A British Anarchist Tradition identifies an area of anarchism that deserves greater critical, scholarly attention. Its unique and thorough research will make it a valuable resource for anyone interested in contemporary anarchist thought, political theory, and political movements.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, dozens of anarchist publications appeared throughout the United States despite limited financial resources, a pestering and censorial postal department, and persistent harassment, arrest, and imprisonment by the State. Such works energetically advocated a stateless society built upon individual liberty and voluntary cooperation. In Anarchist Periodicals in English Published in the United States (1833-1955): An Annotated Guide, Ernesto A. Longa provides a glimpse into the doctrines of these publications. This volume highlights the articles, reports, manifestos, and creative works of anarchists and left libertarians who were dedicated to propagandizing against authoritarianism, sham democracy, wage and sex slavery, and race prejudice. In the survey are nearly 100 newspapers produced throughout North America. For each entry, the following information is provided: title, issues examined, subtitle, editor, publication information, including location and frequency of publication, contributors, features and subjects, preceding and succeeding titles and an OCLC number to facilitate the identification of owning libraries via a WorldCat search. Excerpts from a selection of articles are provided to convey both the ideological orientation and rhetorical style of each paper's editors and contributors. Finally, special attention is given to highlighting the scope of anarchist involvement in combating obscenity and labor laws that abridged the right to freely circulate reform papers through the mails, speak on street corners, and assemble in union halls.

Anarchists were among the earliest modern thinkers to offer a systemic critique of criminal justice and among the first to directly criticize academic criminology while formulating a critical criminology. They identified the sources of social problems in social structures and relations of inequality and recognized that the institutions preferred by mainstream criminologists as would-be solutions to social problems were actually the causes or enablers of those harms in the first place. This volume collects critical writings on criminology from radicals and thinkers like William Godwin, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Mikahil Bakunin, Peter Kropotkin, Lucy Parsons, Emma Goldman, and many others.

While other studies of liberation theology have shown a close connection to Marxism, none have probed its anarchistic dimensions. This original study reveals that in many of the most prominent themes of Latin American liberation theology there are close parallels to the ideas found in nineteenth-century European anarchism. These themes include an ethical concern with freedom, justice, equality, and love; a denunciation of political and economic structures of domination; an emphasis on action; a championing of all oppressed peoples; a realistic consideration of the issue of violence; and the vision of a future free from servitude. These common concerns, along with historical connections to both religious and secular anarchist sources, show a revolutionary theology deeply indebted to its anarchist roots.
