Las protagonistas de este libro fueron pioneras porque se rebelaron contra el papel subordinado que tenían en la esfera pública y privada, pasando a conquistar espacios negados a las jóvenes obreras hasta el momento de la República y la Guerra Civil. Fueron también revolucionarias porque quisieron abolir las injusticias del sistema social y político capitalista y porque dirigieron su militancia para construir un sistema igualitario económico, social y de género. Eulàlia Vega es doctora en Historia contemporánea por la Universitat de Barcelona y profesora titular en la Universitat de Lleida. Especialista en la historia del anarcosindicalismo español, de los movimientos sociales y de género. Fundadora en 1990 del Seminari Interdisciplinar d ́Estudis de la Dona (SIED) de la Universitat de Lleida y miembro de su grupo de investigación consolidado. Ha publicado numerosos libros y artículos sobre estas temáticas. Entre sus publicaciones destaca El Trentisme a Catalunya (1980) y Anarquistas y Sindicalistas durante la Segunda República (1987). Recientemente ha publicado Entre revolució i reforma. The Road to Anarchy is the result of an exhaustive investigation into the anarcho-syndicalist Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) during the democratic years of the Second Republic. By analysing the course of the CNT in terms of its role in the labour conflict and the internal life and approach of the organisation (its ideology, its practice, its internal conflicts, the role of the individual and the weight of history) this book dismantles the long-held view that the CNT orchestrated three insurrections against the Republic. Key is analysis not only of the violence of the anarchists, but also that of the state. Two crucial themes emerge: the political struggle within the organisation, and its involvement in the revolution of October 1934 and in the events of the spring of 1936. Ángel Herrerín investigates the controversial relations of the anarchists with other political formations, such as the republicans, the socialists, Communists and Catalans, with whom the anarchists fought on the republican side during the Civil War. Special attention is paid to the crucial relationship with the socialist trade unions, the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), as this evolved from one of competition for trade-union dominance to the acceptance of anarcho-syndicalist practices by the socialists and collaboration between the two organisations. The book is based on wide-ranging archival research, including the Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, the National Historical Archive in Spain, the Foreign Office Archives in France and other national archives related to the repression of the CNT, such as those of the Army and Civil Guard in Spain. The study of the CNT in this timeframe is long overdue; the last similar study was undertaken by the US Democratic Congressman John Brademas in the 1950s, a renowned scholar of Spains social revolution.

El anarquismo vio la luz como ideología en la Europa de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y sus principales ideólogos fueron Pierre-Joseph Proudhon y el noble ruso Mijail Bakunin, siendo su definición canónica: una propuesta de organización revolucionaria de la sociedad caracterizada por la inexistencia de cualquier tipo de estado, gobierno, jerarquía y leyes escritas. Este libro nos adentrará en personajes como Ravachol o Bonnot, representativos de un anarquismo francés conocido como «ilegalista», poco amante de la teoría y propenso a la violencia contra el «sistema». Revisaremos tópicos como que, entre finales del siglo XIX y las tres primeras décadas del XX, la principal implantación organizativa del anarquismo tuvo lugar en la Europa mediterránea y el Imperio ruso o las mitificadas virtudes de los anarquistas españoles y rusos en sus respectivas guerras civiles. También abordaremos la experiencia revolucionaria durante nuestra contienda fratricida y analizaremos experiencias libertarias ignoradas como la del Ejército Negro del anarquista ucraniano Nestor Mackhnó durante la guerra civil rusa o la de la Comuna Libre de Shinmin en Manchuria.
