Spesialis Dokter Hewan kiranya sudah perlu dipertimbangkan dalam meningkatkan mutu pelayanan Dokter Hewan untuk kesehatan pasien dan kepuasan klien. Mengingat buku-buku referensi yang dapat dipakai sebagai acuan bagi Dokter Hewan Praktisi, mahasiswa kedokteran hewan, paramedis veteriner, dan lain-lain sangat kurang, maka penulis menghimpun kumpulan masalahnya dan diterbitkan dalam bentuk buku. Dokter hewan yang haji ini dilahirkan di Solo, 22 Oktober 1935, hingga selesai pendidikannya di SR (Sekolah Rakyat) di Gombong, kemudian pindah ke Solo melanjutkan sekolahnya di SMP 3 Singkokan, dan SMA Negeri 1. Margoyudan Solo (1954). Melanjutkan pendidikannya di FKHP Universitas Indonesia, sampai memperoleh gelar Dokter Hewan pada tahun 1961. Dalam usia nya ke 31 sudah menjabat Inspektur/Kepala Dinas Peternakan Provinsi Irian Barat hingga tahun 1971. Kemudian menjadi salah satu konseptor Bimbingan Massal (Bimas) Peternakan Ayam, yang pilot projectnya dilakukan di beberapa daerah di Jawa Barat dan Jawa Tengah (1971 - 1975). Selesai “membayar ikatan dinas” membuka praktek dengan spesialisasi Hewan Kecil pada tahun 1975 hingga sekarang di Jakarta. Dalam hidupnya beliau mempunyai “falsafah hidup” : 4-exercise, bahwa orang harus selalu bergerak (Physical Exercise), orang harus selalu berdoa dan mengamalkan ajaran-ajaran agamanya (Mental Exercise), orang harus selalu belajar sepanjang hayatnya (Brain Exercise), dan orang harus aktif dibidang sosial dan kemasyarakatan (Social Exercise). Di bidang “Brain Exercise’, kecuali mengikuti seminar-seminar ilmiah, beliau telah menulis 8 buah buku. Kapita Selekta Kedokteran Veteriner ini adalah bukunya yang ke 7, dan masih banyak lagi yang sedang dan akan di tulisnya, di samping sebagai konsultan dan majalah-majalah khusus kedokteran veteriner, akupuntur dan hobi antara lain Majalah infovet, Majalah Akupuntur Indonesia dan Pets. Di bidang “Social Exercise”, aktif di berbagai profesi dan dan menjadi Konseptor AD-ART dan Kode Etik Profesi dari PDHI (Perhimpunan Dokter Hewan Indonesia), PAKSI (Persatuan Akupunktur Seluruh Indonesia), dan HSB (Hotline Service Bersama) yang masih berlaku sampai sekarang.

Many patients who present to district (first-referral) level hospitals require surgical treatment for trauma, obstetric, abdominal or orthopedic emergencies. Often surgery cannot be safely postponed to allow their transfer to a secondary or tertiary-level hospital but many district hospitals in developing countries have no specialist surgical teams and are staffed by medical, nursing, and paramedical personnel who perform a wide range of surgical procedures often with inadequate training. The quality of surgical and acute care is often further constrained by poor facilities, inadequate low-technology apparatus and limited supplies of drugs, materials, and other essentials. The mission of the team responsible for Clinical Procedures in the World Health Organization Department of Essential Health Technologies (EHT) is to promote the quality of clinical care through the identification, promotion and standardization of appropriate procedures, equipment and materials, particularly at district hospital level. WHO/BCT has identified education and training as a particular priority, especially for non-specialist practitioners who practice surgery and anesthesia. It has therefore developed Surgical Care at the District Hospital as a practical resource for individual practitioners and for use in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in-service training and continuing medical education programs. The manual is a successor of three earlier publications that are widely used throughout the world and that remain important reference texts: General Surgery at the District Hospital (WHO 1988), Surgery at the District Hospital: Obstetrics Gynecology Orthopedics and Traumatology (WHO 1991), Anesthesia at the District Hospital (WHO 1988; second edition 2000).
