I was confused as to why competent women, filled with feminine prowess and beauty, would ever succumb to dating these types of men. Suddenly, I had a compelling, unexpected desire to dive into the banks of my memories, expert advice, and research, devoting a fraction of my life to finding answers and then sharing them with the women of the world. Written by a man with extensive experience on the topic, Beyond the Breakup explains how men think about breakups, their ex-girlfriend, and how they perceive her behavior in the wake of a relationship's end. It also explains the implications this has for girls who are going through a breakup: what will and won't have an emotional effect on him, how to maximize your chances of getting him back, how and when you should contact him, what you should (and shouldn't) say, how to deal with seeing him again, and much more. The list of the chapter titles below give a good overview of the content. This book is not written for women with a weak spirit. It isn’t going to tell you how to mitigate the pain you feel in the wake of a breakup, and it isn’t going to tell you that everything is going to be fine. And while it will tell you how to maximize your chances of getting your ex back, it isn’t going to pretend that there are any ‘tricks’ to make that outcome likely. However, it will do something much more important: it will give you a strong insight into your ex’s state of mind and male psychology in general. This will give you the foundation you need to navigate the breakup and – more importantly – propel yourself into honest and successful relationships with the men in your future. Chapter List: Introduction PART I – UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAPPENED Men Don’t Fall in Love the Same Way Women Do The Analogy Between Sex and Commitment Why This Always Happens to You Changing Your Perspective Why You Didn’t See It Coming Men Don’t Have “Commitment Problems” The Difference Between Liking You and Liking You Enough Why Men “Fade Out” You Weren’t Dating Him in the First Place The Small Things Didn’t Matter Anyway Why Your Ex (Who Dumped You) Is Still Contacting You Your Ex and Guilt Your Ex and Pride Your Ex and Decisiveness Interpreting His Emotions What’s Going Through His Mind PART II – HOW TO HANDLE THE BREAKUP The Importance of Silence after a Breakup No, You Can’t Be “Just Friends” How to Know If You Should Cut Him Off Why It’s Never Too Late Why You Should Tell Him That You Are Cutting Him Off What to Say Managing Your Expectations When You Should Fight to Save Your Relationship Exceptions to the Rule How to Know If You Should Dump Him First When He Cheats The Anatomy of Missing Him PART III – FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH THE BREAKUP Making Him Jealous Doesn’t Work Seeing Him at Work Being Connected with Your Ex on Social Media Returning His Things and Getting Yours Back What to Do When He Contacts You When He Says He Wants Another Chance Reason and Distraction Stop Sleeping with Your Ex to Prove He Likes You PART IV – MOVING ON AND REBUILDING You Are Responsible for Your Own Romantic Happiness Stop Letting Him Waste Your Time Know Why You Want Him Back Why Getting Him Back Won’t Help Why Getting Dumped Is a Good Thing The Importance of Emotional Honesty Dating Again Putting the Breakup in Perspective When You Can Contact Him Again Reframing the Future A Final Word

"Like [Judy Blume's] Forever, this sensitive, candid novel is sure to find a wide audience among curious teens."--Booklist Before this all happened, the closest I’d ever come to getting physical with a guy was playing the board game Operation. Okay, so maybe that sounds pathetic, but it’s not like there were any guys at my high school who I cared to share more than three words with, let alone my body. Then I met Wes, a track star senior from across town. Maybe it was his soulful blue eyes, or maybe my hormones just started raging. Either way, I was hooked. And after a while, he was too. I couldn’t believe how intense my feelings became, or the fact that I was seeing—and touching—parts of the body I’d only read about in myGray’s Anatomy textbook. You could say Wes and I experienced a lot of firsts together that spring. It was scary. It was fun. It was love. And then came the fall. Daria Snadowsky‘s unflinching dissection of seventeen-year-old Dominique’s first relationship reveals the ecstasy and the agony of love, and everything in between. "[Snadowsky] deals in modern terms with the real issues of discovering sex for the first time . . . in a responsible way."--SLJ

Today, a third of American children are born outside of marriage, up from one child in twenty in the 1950s, and rates are even higher among low-income Americans. Many herald this trend as one of the most troubling of our time. But the decline in marriage does not necessarily signal the demise of the two parent family—over 80 percent of unmarried couples are still romantically involved when their child is born and nearly half are living together. Most claim they plan to marry eventually. Yet half have broken up by their child's third birthday. What keeps some couples together and what tears others apart? After a breakup, how do fathers so often disappear from their children's lives? An intimate portrait of the challenges of partnering and parenting in these families, Unmarried Couples with Children presents a variety of unique findings. Most of the pregnancies were not explicitly planned, but some couples feel having a child is the natural course of a serious relationship. Many of the parents are living with their child plus the mother's child from a previous relationship. When the father also has children from a previous relationship, his visits to see them at their mother's house often cause his current partner to be jealous. Breakups are more often driven by sexual infidelity or conflict than economic problems. After couples break up, many fathers complain they are shut out, especially when the mother has a new partner. For their part, mothers claim to limit dads' access to their children because of their involvement with crime, drugs, or other dangers. For couples living together with their child several years after the birth, marriage remains an aspiration, but something couples are resolutely unwilling to enter without the financial stability they see as a sine qua non of marriage. They also hold marriage to a high relational standard, and not enough emotional attention from their partners is women's number one complaint. Unmarried Couples with Children is a landmark study of the family lives of nearly fifty American children born outside of a marital union at the dawn of the twenty-first century. Based on personal narratives gathered from both mothers and fathers over the first four years of their children's lives, and told partly in the couples' own words, the story begins before the child is conceived, takes the reader through the tumultuous months of pregnancy to the moment of birth, and on through the child's fourth birthday. It captures in rich detail the complex relationship dynamics and powerful social forces that derail the plans of so many unmarried parents. The volume injects some much-needed reality into the national discussion about family values, and reveals that the issues are more complex than our political discourse suggests.

Some teach you how to love and stay in love. But nobody tells you what love is or how to acquire it when you don’t have it. How are you supposed to love someone and find happiness if you don’t love yourself, or find happiness within, first? Hugo Bradford’s life changed in an instant when his relationship ended with who might have been the love of his life. Then, he failed once again when he decided to be a different man—a better man. Hugo then set on a path of introspection and healing by researching through the sciences and submerging himself with the voices of experts, experience, and the opinion of women. Love—A simple, four-letter word that produces over fourteen billion search results on search engines across the internet. A guide to understanding the major genres of the story world by the legendary writing teacher and author of The Anatomy of Story, John Truby. Most people think genres are simply categories on Netflix or Amazon that provide a helpful guide to making entertainment choices. Most people are wrong. Genre stories aren’t just a small subset of the films, video games, TV shows, and books that people consume. They are the all-stars of the entertainment world, comprising the vast majority of popular stories worldwide. That’s why businesses—movie studios, production companies, video game studios, and publishing houses—buy and sell them. Writers who want to succeed professionally must write the stories these businesses want to buy. Simply put, the storytelling game is won by mastering the structure of genres. The Anatomy of Genres: How Story Forms Explain the Way the World Works is the legendary writing teacher John Truby’s step-by-step guide to understanding and using the basic building blocks of the story world. He details the three ironclad rules of successful genre writing, and analyzes more than a dozen major genres and the essential plot events, or “beats,” that define each of them. As he shows, the ability to combine these beats in the right way is what separates stories that sell from those that don’t. Truby also reveals how a single story can combine elements of different genres, and how the best writers use this technique to craft unforgettable stories that stand out from the crowd. Just as Truby’s first book, The Anatomy of Story, changed the way writers develop stories, The Anatomy of Genres will enhance their quality and expand the impact they have on the world.
