Am 10. April 1927 wurde Andrzej Tadeusz Wirth in dem kleinen Ort Wlodawa geboren, heute an der Grenze zwischen Polen und Weißrussland. Er sagt: Das kann man sich nicht aussuchen. Wirth lebte dann in Warschau, New York, London, Berlin, Venedig und war scheinbar immer im richtigen Moment am richtigen Ort, wenn es um neues Theater ging. Er sah noch Brechts Berliner Ensemble, die Anfänge von Grotowski in Polen, war dabei, als Peter Handke der Gruppe 47 die Leviten las, und verfolgte den Aufstieg Robert Wilsons aus den Kellern von Manhattan. 1982 gründete Wirth das Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaften in Gießen, der Kaderschmiede - Gerhard Stadelmeier sprach von Unglücksschmiede - des postdramatischen Theaters. Ein Begriff, den Wirth zwar schon in den frühen siebziger Jahren in New York prägte, der ihm aber heute, wo praktisch alles irgendwie postdramatisch geworden ist, nicht mehr brauchbar erscheint. Das und fast sein ganzes Leben hat er nun in einem Interview-Buch erzählt: “Flucht nach vorn”.
