Grand Prix de la Fondation Napoléon 2022 Grand prix de la biographie littéraire 2023 A la fin de sa vie, Benjamin Constant déclarait : " Je veux qu'on dise après moi que j'ai contribué à fonder la liberté en France. " La postérité ne lui a pourtant pas rendu suffisamment justice, célébrant plutôt le romancier d 'Adolphe, chef d'œuvre pionnier de l'autofiction, que le combattant inlassable de " la liberté en tout ", selon son expression. Né en 1767 à Lausanne dans une famille protestante d'origine française, orphelin de mère dès sa naissance, il mena une existence vagabonde à travers l'Europe, où il se fit remarquer aussitôt par la puissance de son esprit et son extraordinaire facilité d'expression, ainsi que par ses amours erratiques et ses dettes de jeu. En 1795, formant avec Germaine de Staël un couple exceptionnel et orageux, il s'engage en politique. Par la plume et par l'action, sa ligne ne variera jamais : conjurer la tentation totalitaire par un gouvernement représentatif équilibré et garantissant toutes les libertés, celle de la presse comme celle des Noirs. C'est pourquoi il s'opposa vivement à l'Empire autoritaire puis à la Restauration réactionnaire. Parmi ses innombrables écrits et discours, les Principes de politique furent le bréviaire de la jeunesse libérale, et ses obsèques, en décembre 1830, donnèrent lieu à Paris à une énorme manifestation de foule, qui saluait la liberté faite homme. This Funeral Record Book, probably from a funeral home in Allegheny County, New York records the funerals of people from the towns of Cuba, Black Creek, Bellville, Scotts Corners, Clarksville, New Hudson, Linden, Scio, Magrawville, Friendship, Wolf Run, etc. as well as the Cattaraugus County town of Ishua. As of April 1877 there was gross income of $4216.85, inclusive for 3 years. The bills range from $6.00 to $100. Causes of death include diptheria (1877), intemperance, appoplexy, small pox, consumption, shot by husband. Payment on account includes goods auctioned, buy groceries at Webster, as well as cash payments.
