Out Of Albania written by Russell King and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-01 with Social Science categories.

Analysing the dynamics of the post-1990 Albanian migration to Italy, this book is the first major study of one of Europe’s newest, most dramatic yet least understood migrations. It takes a close look at migrants’ employment, housing and social exclusion in Italy, as well as the process of return migration to Albania. The research described in the book challenges the pervasive stereotype of the “bad Albanian” and, through in-depth fieldwork on Albanian communities in Italy and back in Albania, provides rich insights into the Albanian experience of migration, settlement and return in both their positive and their negative aspects.

By linking the experiences of immigrant families with the increased reliance on cheap and flexible workers for care and domestic work in Southern Europe, this study documents the lived experiences of neglected actors of globalization — migrant women — as well as the transformations of Western families more generally. However, while describing in detail the structural and cultural contexts within which these women have to operate, the book questions dominant paradigms about women as passive victims of patriarchal structures and brings out instead their agency and the creative ways in which they take control of their lives in often difficult circumstances. Based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork and interviews, the author offers a valuable dual comparison between two Southern European countries on the one hand and between two migrant groups, one Christian and one Muslim, on the other, thus bringing to light unique detailed data on migration decision-making, settlement and on the multiple ways in which different women cope with the consequences of their transnational lives.

Media And Migration written by Russell King and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-15 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This title explores the close and vital relationship between the contemporary media and immigration. Drawing on newspapers, magazines, film, television and photography, the contributors examine the effects of mass media on migration behaviour and ethnic identity. Using examples from a range of countries, Media and Migration illustrates how the media intervenes to affect the reception migrants receive, how it stimulates prospective migrants to move and how it plays a dynamic role in the cultural politics and cultural identity of diasporic communities.

Dirty Work written by Jeffrey E. Cole and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-03-01 with Social Science categories.

Dirty Work explores the lives and work of recent immigrants from Africa, Asia, and elsewhere to the southern Italian region of Sicily. Using extensive research, Cole and Booth focus on the experiences of foreigners employed in domestic service, prostitution, and agriculture. Investigation of these key sectors affords a revealing vantage point onto the place of Sicily in the increasingly international circuit of people, goods, practices, and capital. The book departs from the focus, common in immigration studies, on a single nationality or location by instead describing the experiences of foreigners of diverse origins in rural and urban areas. The Sicilian case epitomizes what is one of the most significant developments in contemporary Europe: the recent transformation of the South from labor exporter to immigrant destination. Probing the material foundations of the contemporary world,Dirty Work's clear and compelling presentation of timely themes should make it of interest to a broad readership, including students, scholars, and the interested public.

The Prehistory Of Mathematical Structuralism written by Erich H. Reck and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Mathematics categories.

This edited volume explores the previously underacknowledged 'pre-history' of mathematical structuralism, showing that structuralism has deep roots in the history of modern mathematics. The contributors explore this history along two distinct but interconnected dimensions. First, they reconsider the methodological contributions of major figures in the history of mathematics. Second, they re-examine a range of philosophical reflections from mathematically-inclinded philosophers like Russell, Carnap, and Quine, whose work led to profound conclusions about logical, epistemological, and metaphysic.

Philosophy Of Mathematics written by Stewart Shapiro and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-08-07 with Mathematics categories.

Shapiro argues that both realist and anti-realist accounts of mathematics are problematic. To resolve this dilemma, he articulates a "structuralist" approach, arguing that the subject matter of a mathematical theory is not a fixed domain of numbers that exist independent of each other, but rather is the natural structure, the pattern common to any system of objects that has an initial object and successor relation satisfying the induction principle.
