Bila gagasan tentang ‘Jalan Ketiga’ adalah hilir, judul yang terakhir disebut merupakan hulu dalam perjalanan intelektual Giddens. Buku kecil ini mengantar kita pada pokok-pokok pemikiran Giddens, yang bukan hanya penting bagi teori-teori ilmu sosial, tetapi juga berbagai praktik ekonomi, kebudayaan, tata negara, hukum, bahkan psikologi. Giddens dipandang sebagai pelopor dalam analisis yang mengatasi dikotomi antara ‘pelaku’ (agency) dan ‘struktur’ (structure). Sintesa teoretisnya disebut ‘teori strukturasi’ (structuration theory). Dalam bidang tata negara, pemikiran Giddens berpengaruh luas pada perkembangan New Labour di Inggris, dan juga partai-partai demokrasi sosial di berbagai negara. Giddens juga terlibat dalam jaringan “The Third Way Think-Tank” yang menghubungkan kelompok baru demokrat-sosialis di Eropa dan Amerika.

This proceeding contains selected papers of The International Seminar On Recent Language, Literature, And Local Culture Studies “Kajian Mutakhir Bahasa, Sastra, Dan Budaya Daerah (BASA)” held on 20-21 September 2019 in Solo, Indonesia. The conference which was organized by Sastra Daerah, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Sebelas Maret and Culture Studies Postgraduate Program of Universitas Sebelas Maret. The conference accommodates topics for linguistics in general including issues in language, literature, local cultural studies, philology, folklore, oral literature, history, art, education, etc. Selecting and reviewing process for the The International Seminar On Recent Language, Literature, And Local Culture Studies “Kajian Mutakhir Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya Daerah” was very challenging in that it needs a goodwill of those who were involved in such a process. More than ten experts were invited in reviewing, giving suggestions for revision and at last selecting the papers. On that account, we would like to forward our appreciation and our gratefulness to such invited experts for having done the process. The committee received more than 180 papers from the participants and based on the results of the review, only 141 papers were declared fit to be presented at the seminar and subsequently published in the proceedings of BASA#3-2019 Papers in the proceeding are expected to give academic benefits, especially in broadening the horizon of our understanding in language, literature, and local culture studies. We realize that what we are presenting for the publication is till far for being perfect. Constructive criticism is very much welcome for improvement. Finally, the committees thank for the participation and congratulate for the publication of the papers in the proceedings of BASA#3-2019. The committees also thank all those who have supported and actively participated for the success of this event. Hopefully these Proceedings can be used as references in developing technology and improving learning activities in the fields of education, social, arts and humanities.

Satu dasawarsa sejak ambruknya singgasana sang Raja Cendana dan seabad sejak kebangkitan bangsa dari cengkeraman Belanda, diskursus demokrasi di Indonesia masih (dan akan tetap terus begitu) mencari-cari rupa baik secara teoretis maupun praktik bagi penataan kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara yang lebih baik. Demokrasi yang diyakini dapat menuntun kehidupan manusia menuju tercapainya cita-cita universal manusia yakni kebebasan, kesetaraan, dan kesejahteraan, kini telah mengalami transformasi dan modifikasi sedemikian rupa hingga memunculkan varian-varian teoretis yang makin rumit untuk dipahami. Di sisi lain, secara faktual pengalaman di tanah air yang telah melalui tiga rezim pemerintahan mulai dari Orde Lama, Orde Baru, hingga Pasca-Orde Baru (atau biasa disebut Orde Reformasi) secara dramatik belum menunjukkan tanda-tanda yang memuaskan bagi tercapainya cita-cita demokrasi tersebut. Diskursus demokrasi menjadi lebih dinamik (untuk tidak mengatakan ironis) mengingat semakin jelas terlihatnya ketimpangan antara perkembangan teoretis demokrasi yang makin canggih dan kenyataan faktual masyarakat di Indonesia yang makin kompleks. Dalam kondisi dilematik seperti ini, seringkali terlintas di benak sebagian masyarakat untuk kembali ber-romantika ke masa lalu, merindukan kenyamanan, stabilitas dan ketercukupan yang pernah membuai masyarakat pada masa Orde Baru dulu. Sebagian yang lain lebih merindukan dan berharap-harap menemukan kembali spirit yang menggelora dari para perintis kemerdekaan yang kini lambat laun telah menguap ditelan cepatnya waktu berlari.

Pesantren PKBM lebih fleksibel dalam beradaptasi, sedangkan pesantren yang terafiliasi dengan organisasi besar mengikuti kebijakan organisasi. Buku ini menunjukkan adaptasi pesantren mencerminkan interaksi antara struktur pandemi dan tindakan agen pesantren.
