Excerpt from Apéndice al Diccionario Universal de Historia y de Geografía, Vol. 1: Colección de Artículos Relativos Á la República Mexicana; VIII de la Obra Al'-aceptar las pr°puestas que me hicieron los señores editores del diccionario universal, fin de que me encargase de formar el Apéndice ofrecido, sabía muy bien que mi solo trabajo no era bastante para llevar a cabo la empresa, ya por que, no tenia á la mano todos los elementos para ella necesarios, ya porque, aun cuando tuviera a mi disposicion cuanto pudiera apetecer, carecía de tiempo bas tante para coordinar los datos, y de los conocimientos suficientes para escribir todos los artículos. Para formar, pues, alguna cosa de provecho, ocurrí á'todas aquellas personas, que honrándome con su amistad, son capaces de ilustrar al público, por los estensos y variados conocimientos que poseen. He puesto al frente de este libro los nombres de las que generosamente se han ofrecido a ayu darme, y creo que esos nombres son la mejor garantía de que este Apéndice no carecerá de mérito. Fiado en la promesa formal de estos señores, puse mano si la obra. Consta ésta de artículos originales escritos por los colaboradores, de otros refundidos, y de algunos copiados, puestos todos en forma de diccionario. De la primera clase.
