El Departamento de Periodismo III viene desarrollando desde hace varios años la iniciativa de convocar a investigadores españoles y de otros países a un Encuentro Internacional que celebra cada comienzo de curso. Con pocos recursos pero mucha ilusión, el Encuentro viene celebrándose ya casi una década. La idea principal es alimentar la siempre necesaria comunicación entre investigadores más allá de sus foros especializados, para saltar las barreras de las áreas de conocimiento y de investigación y producir la creatividad que toda hibridación implica. El presente volumen da cuenta de las aportaciones que un año más se han ofrecido en este Encuentro con las garantías que el carácter público, universal y gratuito del mismo nos proporcionan. El único requisito para poder realizar una ponencia y publicar su correspondiente investigación de apoyo en nuestro marco académico es la calidad de las propuestas y la efectividad de las presentaciones. Como en el caso de la revista académica CIC Cuadernos de Información y Comunicación, nuestro otro “buque insignia” como Departamento universitario de investigación, nos guiamos fundamentalmente por la calidad del contenido de las aportaciones y la necesidad de difundir ideas y conocimientos de verdadera valía. Aunque este objetivo parece obvio, si echamos un vistazo al panorama de producciones en nuestro país y fuera de él en el ámbito de la investigación en comunicación, periodismo y medios, veremos que no es tan obvio y al contrario, empieza a ser imperativo recuperar la idea exclusiva del contenido de calidad como objetivo de toda actividad académica. Son muchas las presiones, competitividad y desviaciones que la comunicación académica va experimentando. La informalización del discurso digital público is an innovative volume which examines different communicative practices which take place on social media and justifies the shift towards more informal/oral styles of public communication in English and Spanish. El libro ofrece un punto de vista novedoso sobre la contribución del cambio de código, la elección de lengua y los graficonos a la imagen pública de instituciones, políticos y celebridades; así como la repercusión que las estrategias mencionadas tienen en la negociación de las normas e identidades de las comunidades públicas en redes sociales. Ofrece un enfoque actualizado del estudio del discurso digital en contextos públicos y es el primero de este tipo escrito en español.
