L'objectif est d'aider les métrologues et les utilisateurs d'instruments de mesure à appréhender la nouvelle définition de l'étalonnage introduite par la 3e édition du Vocabulaire International de Métrologie et de fournir des éléments pour sa mise en uvre au sein des laboratoires d'étalonnage. Il constitue une introduction à la compréhension de la modélisation des résultats d'un étalonnage. Une méthodologie pour le choix d'une méthode de modélisation est proposée en fonction des informations disponibles ainsi que les livrables attendus dans un certificat d'étalonnage selon cette nouvelle définition. Ce guide est illustré par des exemples pour mieux comprendre les méthodes et méthodologies décrites ainsi que les implications concrètes dans les processus d'étalonnage. Enfin, il faut noter qu'un logiciel de modélisation des résultats d'étalonnage intitulé M-CARE a été développé sur cette base. Réalisé avec le support de la Direction Générale de la Compétitivité, de l'Industrie et des Services, il est disponible gratuitement sur le site du Collège Français de Métrologie. Ce guide a été rédigé par un groupe de travail du Collège Français de Métrologie (CFM). Déjà publié par le CFM, il est aujourd'hui réédité par le CFM et AFNOR Editions dans le cadre de la collection " Les Guides Techniques du Collège Français de Métrologie ". La collection " Les Guides techniques du Collège Français de Métrologie (CFM) " rassemble les ouvrages rédigés par des groupes de travail du CFM. Ces documents ont pour vocation de présenter les " bonnes pratiques " mises en place ou en cours de développement en entreprise dans des domaines très variés.
