A Study Of The Effect Of The Ion Exchange Method Of Chemical Tempering On A Macroflaw In Soda Lime Glass written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with categories.

The work examines the strengthening effect of the ion exchange method of chemical tempering on a macroflaw in glass. Use of a macroflaw allows a quantitative fracture mechanics analysis of the amount of strengthening. Precracked soda-lime glass specimens were treated for various lengths of time in a potassium nitrate salt bath held at lengths of time in a potassium nitrate salt bath held at 365C. The behavior of the macroflaw while being treated and at fracture was closely observed. The strain energy release rate, G sub c, and the fracture toughness, K sub c, were found by using the double cantilever cleavage technique of measuring fracture surface energies. The average strengthening which occurred at this temperature was found to be almost linear with time with a maximum increase of G sub c of approximately 300 per cent at twenty-four hours. The diffusion of ions was determined to be inward from the sides of the flaw rather than across the entire flaw tip. (Author).

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thougtit that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 31 (thesis year 1986) a total of 11 ,480 theses titles trom 24 Canadian and 182 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base tor these titles reported will greatly enhance the value ot this important annual reterence work. While Volume 31 reports theses submitted in 1986, on occasion, certain univer sities do re port theses submitted in previousyears but not reported at the time.

Materials Kinetics written by John C. Mauro and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Materials Kinetics: Transport and Rate Phenomena provides readers with a clear understanding of how physical-chemical principles are applied to fundamental kinetic processes. The book integrates advanced concepts with foundational knowledge and cutting-edge computational approaches, demonstrating how diffusion, morphological evolution, viscosity, relaxation and other kinetic phenomena can be applied to practical materials design problems across all classes of materials. The book starts with an overview of thermodynamics, discussing equilibrium, entropy, and irreversible processes. Subsequent chapters focus on analytical and numerical solutions of the diffusion equation, covering Fick’s laws, multicomponent diffusion, numerical solutions, atomic models, and diffusion in crystals, polymers, glasses, and polycrystalline materials. Dislocation and interfacial motion, kinetics of phase separation, viscosity, and advanced nucleation theories are examined next, followed by detailed analyses of glass transition and relaxation behavior. The book concludes with a series of chapters covering molecular dynamics, energy landscapes, broken ergodicity, chemical reaction kinetics, thermal and electrical conductivities, Monte Carlo simulation techniques, and master equations. Covers the full breadth of materials kinetics, including organic and inorganic materials, solids and liquids, theory and experiments, macroscopic and microscopic interpretations, and analytical and computational approaches Demonstrates how diffusion, viscosity microstructural evolution, relaxation, and other kinetic phenomena can be leveraged in the practical design of new materials Provides a seamless connection between thermodynamics and kinetics Includes practical exercises that reinforce key concepts at the end of each chapter
