In its simplest form, the scientific method can be thought of as learning from our mistakes and trying to correct them. True scientists try to think rationally, never adopt dogmatic opinions and are always willing to listen to opposing views. They never claim to know the absolute truth but are relentless in their search for it. In this timely book, the author describes the fundamentals of critical scientific thinking. The book further examines the correct use of the scientific method and how to apply it to current events and scientific topics to obtain honest assessments. Current controversies discussed include climate change and COVID-related lockdowns. Additional Features include: Demonstrates the use of the scientific method to assist with objective analysis of issues Addresses that induction plays a role but the true method for advancing knowledge is hypothesis-deduction Explores current hot topics within the framework of the scientific method Outlines common misunderstandings of the scientific method Applying the Scientific Method to Learn from Mistakes and Approach Truth is approachable enough for the general public and recommended for university and advanced high school science educators and their students.

Using SCIENCE and THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD to eliminate the Usual Suspects, in an attempt to demonstrate and prove THE TRUTH!This book was my first venture into the Philosophy of Science. This book has gone through a number of different versions as I have fleshed it out. The original core is still there, but I have enhanced it quite a bit with Preface Material as the years have gone by.In this book, I line up the Usual Suspects, gather and define the Evidence; and then, I apply THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD, common sense logic, abductive reasoning, and deductive reasoning to them, in order to see if any one of them could have done the job of designing and creating this Physical Universe, this Earth, and ALL of the Genomes and Life Forms on this Earth. The goal is to find the Correct Suspect among all of the Usual Suspects, who are typically presented to us for our consideration. This was a fun book to write, because it made logical sense to me from beginning to end. Some people had serious problems with the title of this book because they have chosen to believe that the Scientific Method cannot be used to prove the truth. This belief technically isn't true. You see, the Scientific Method can be used and is used to falsify theories - to prove theories false; and, if you successfully eliminate everything that is false, then ONLY the truth will remain. The false is falsified by the truth; and, the truth is repeatedly experienced and observed. That's the way science works! Or at least, that's the way science is supposed to work. If your science isn't leading you to the truth, then your science is worthless and you ain't doing it right. If you are not using the Scientific Method (or observation and experience) to falsify and eliminate falsehoods such as Materialism, Naturalism, Nihilism, Darwinism, Behaviorism, Determinism, Physical Reductionism, and Atheism, then you ain't doing science right and you aren't using the Scientific Method as it was intended to be used. The purpose of the Scientific Method is to identify and eliminate everything that is false so that only the truth will remain. That's the Philosophy of Science that we should be living by and enacting - not the one that involves the dogmatic suppression and destruction of evidence.Within the original title for this book, I was treating the Scientific Method as a detective. The original title of this book was, "Using the Scientific Method to Eliminate the Usual Suspects and to Prove the Truth". People didn't get it. They resisted. They have been taught in school that the Scientific Method can't be used to prove the truth. Technically, that is true; but, it is also false. You see, the Scientific Method can be used to find the truth (prove the truth) through a process of elimination, by eliminating everything that has been falsified by the Scientific Method starting with Materialism, Naturalism, Darwinism, Nihilism, and Atheism. We learned this methodology from Sherlock Holmes. How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible [and the false], whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth? - Sherlock Holmes. This is Logic 101. If you successfully eliminate everything that is false, then ONLY the truth will remain. We use the Scientific Method to help us eliminate everything that is false so that ONLY the truth will remain. You see, the false is falsified by the truth; and, the truth is constantly and repeatedly experienced, verified, witnessed, seen, and observed. When we use the Scientific Method to eliminate everything that is false, then we end up with the stuff that is constantly being verified, experienced, and observed. We end up with the truth. That's how we use the Scientific Method to find the truth and to eventually prove the truth. The truth is constantly being verified, because it's constantly being seen, experienced, lived, and observed.

Documenting my current understanding of the Scientific Method and demonstrating how I use the Scientific Method in my pursuit of THE TRUTH.I love studying methodology, or the different versions of the Scientific Method. There are many different Scientific Methods. Observation is my favorite scientific method. Through observation and experience, we can identify and falsify the lies in science. Through observation, we can go directly to "knowing the truth". One of my specialties is using the different Scientific Methods to falsify the deceptions and the lies in science, starting with the Theory of Evolution. If you are intelligent enough and creative enough, all of the different Scientific Methods can be used to falsify the Theory of Evolution. You just have to be willing to give it some study and thought. The Scientific Methods can be used to prove theories false! It's called "falsifying" a theory or "negating the consequent". Our scientists haven't yet discovered the most powerful and most reliable version of the Scientific Method - the negating the consequent version of the Scientific Method. They don't know what it is or how to use it. The version of the scientific method that our scientists currently use has a couple of serious flaws or logic fallacies built into it; and, our scientists don't even know it because they have never studied the Philosophy of Science or the scientific methods. In this book, I used Science and the Scientific Method to falsify Darwinism, Materialism, Naturalism, and the Theory of Evolution - in a number of different ways. It's easy to do once you know how, and a great deal of fun too. I have never seen anybody do this before; and, I wish that I would have known how to falsify the Theory of Evolution forty years ago. It's so obvious, I wonder why nobody ever thought of it before now.The purpose of the Scientific Method is to help us to find THE TRUTH, through a preponderance of the evidence, and a process of elimination. We find the Truth in Science by identifying and eliminating everything that is false. If you successfully identify and eliminate everything that is false, then ONLY the truth will remain. This is Logic 101. The truths that remain after you have eliminated everything that is false ends up being the things that have been experienced and observed by someone, somewhere, sometime. If a phenomenon or theory has never been experienced nor observed by anyone, not even God, then it can't possibly be real or true. The Scientific Method has no value to us if we use it to convince ourselves that a LIE is TRUE.The Scientific Methods prove that the Theory of Evolution and the Second Law of Thermodynamics are false. That's what I discovered during my Pursuit of the True Reality of All Things, and during my study and usage of the Scientific Method. It's not a gimmick. I actually use the Scientific Method and negating the consequent to falsify Materialism, Naturalism, Darwinism, Nihilism, Atheism, and their derivatives. It's easy to do once you know how. I'm no longer afraid to have this conversation because I'm no longer a materialist, naturalist, nihilist, or atheist.Collectively, my books stand as a powerful witness that by 2020, the Truths in Science can now be found and known if we are willing to give up the deceptions and the lies. I now know what everything is and how it works. I couldn't say that with complete confidence before 2020, but now I can. I'm running out of questions to ask that need to be answered. By allowing quantum mechanics and conserved quanta in to play, we can literally explain everything that comes our way. We no longer have to be enslaved to the deceptions and the lies if we don't want to be.This is one of the most powerful and comprehensive books about the Scientific Method and the Philosophy of Science that has ever been designed and made. Buy it, read it, and see if you agree.

Excerpt from Scientific Method in Education Education has always recognized the fact that the past is involved in a cultivated present; the mistake has been that it has considered information about the past rather than activity in the progress of the past as fundamental. The lesson taught by evolu tion - that life is movement, not rest - has been interpreted as meaning movement in a fixed stage of development, not as movement from simple to complex conditions. With this understanding the theory of the social environment as the true stimulus for consciousness has resulted in the attempt to project the life of the child into a social, ethical, and civil environment which is simply a reduced copy of the life of the present century. This withholds from him those simpler modes of activity which would be the stimuli adapted for the early years of life. For example, it begins the work in manual training with the perfected tools and exact geometrical designs of the skilled mechanic, and so in that development which should be progressive from the early years - as soon as the child has learned to walk and to handle things - constructive activity is deferred until he reaches the higher grammar grades. Nothing can more painfully and perfectly illustrate the failure of this idea of progression in educational theory than the action taken through the suggestions of leaders in education all over the country, action which delays manual and constructive work until children have reached the sixth or seventh grade. Growth from the simple to the complex, and not growth beginning in the complex, is the fundamental in the natural law of life. Although the theory of the experience of the recapitulation of the race by the individual has been held for centuries, yet it is within very recent years that the ele ment of his activity has been recognized in the word recapitulates. This is illustrated in the fact that Herbart, who first formulated the culture epoch theory as a funda mental ih education, refused to apply it to the learning of the sciences. His refusal to permit in education the possibility of the blundering and absurd theorizing of the past shows that in the main he entertained merely a logical presentation of the history of different peoples. Unwillingness to permit the application of the scientific method in the beginning of the study of science - ia that term we include nature study, physics, chemistry, and mathematics - shows scientific method to be least regarded in the domain in which it originated. Scientists Democracy And Society written by Pierluigi Barrotta and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-21 with Philosophy categories.

This monograph examines the relationship between science and democracy. The author argues that there is no clear-cut division between science and the rest of society. Rather, scientists and laypeople form a single community of inquiry, which aims at the truth. To defend his theory, the author shows that science and society are both heterogeneous and fragmented. They display variable and shifting alliances between components. He also explains how information flow between science and society is bi-directional through “transactional” processes. In other words, science and society mutually define themselves. The author also explains how science is both objective and laden with values. Coverage includes a wide range of topics, such as: the ideal of value-free science, the is/ought divide, “thick terms” and the language of science, inductive risk, the dichotomy between pure science and applied science, constructivism and the philosophy of risk. It also looks at the concepts of truth and objectivity, the autonomy of science, moral and social inquiry, perfectionism and democracy, and the role of experts in democratic societies. The style is philosophical, but the book features many examples and case-studies. It will appeal to philosophers of science, those in science and technology studies as well as interested general readers.

Popper S Legacy written by Raphael Sassower and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-05 with Philosophy categories.

The work of Karl Popper has had extraordinary influence across the fields of scientific and social thought. Widely regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science of the twentieth century, he was also a highly influential social and political philosopher, a proponent and defender of the "open society". "Popper's Legacy" examines Popper in the round, analysing in particular his moral and psychological insights. Once Popper's scientific legacy is couched in political and moral terms, it becomes apparent that his concern for individual autonomy does not come at the expense of institutional guidelines and social conventions. Instead, these guidelines turn out to be essential sanctions for individual freedom. Popper envisions the conduct of the scientific community as paralleling the conduct of any democratically established community. Critical rationality guides the words and actions of all participants and leadership can be replaced without violence. In presenting a critical overview, "Popper's Legacy" reveals the debt many intellectual movements - such as Marxism, feminism, and postmodernism - still owe to Popper.

An introductory text on the investigation of industrial accidents Forensic engineering should be seen as a rigorous approach to the discovery of root causes that lead to an accident or near-miss. The approach should be suitable to identify both the immediate causes as well as the underlying factors that affected, amplified, or modified the events in terms of consequences, evolution, dynamics, etc., as well as the contribution of an eventual "human error". This book is a concise and introductory volume to the forensic engineering discipline which helps the reader to recognize the link among those important, very specialized aspects of the same problem in the global strategy of learning from accidents (or near-misses). The reader will benefit from a single point of access to this very large, technical literature that can be only correctly understood with the right terms, definitions, and links in mind. Keywords: Presents simple (real) cases, as well as giving an overview of more complex ones, each of them investigated within the same framework; Gives the readers the bibliography to access more in-depth specific aspects; Offers an overview of the most commonly used methodologies and techniques to investigate accidents, including the evidence that should be collected to define the cause, dynamics and responsibilities of an industrial accident, as well as the most appropriate methods to collect and preserve the evidence through an appropriate chain of security. Principles of Forensic Engineering Applied to Industrial Accidents is essential reading for researchers and practitioners in forensic engineering, as well as graduate students in forensic engineering departments and other professionals.

As the gateway to scientific thinking, an understanding of the scientific method is essential for success and productivity in science. This book is the first synthesis of the practice and the philosophy of the scientific method. It will enable scientists to be better scientists by offering them a deeper understanding of the underpinnings of the scientific method, thereby leading to more productive research and experimentation. It will also give scientists a more accurate perspective on the rationality of the scientific approach and its role in society. Beginning with a discussion of today's 'science wars' and science's presuppositions, the book then explores deductive and inductive logic, probability, statistics, and parsimony, and concludes with an examination of science's powers and limits, and a look at science education. Topics relevant to a variety of disciplines are treated, and clarifying figures, case studies, and chapter summaries enhance the pedagogy. This adeptly executed, comprehensive, yet pragmatic work yields a new synergy suitable for scientists and instructors, and graduate students and advanced undergraduates.

The New Natural Resource written by Hans Christian Garmann Johnsen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-03 with Business & Economics categories.

Increasingly in the public discourse there are references to the knowledge economy, knowledge society, knowledge workers and knowledge organisations. The argument is that knowledge is becoming the main economic resource, replacing the natural resources that drove the industrial revolution. The new knowledge economy is driven by knowledge development, innovation and highly skilled employees. Increasing investment in higher education and in universities is in line with this strategy and understanding. In an earlier book, Creating Collaborative Advantage edited with Richard Ennals, Professor Hans Christian Garmann Johnsen argued that it is knowledge that links social and economic processes. He believes that what is missing in the current discussion on innovation is a conceptualisation of exactly what knowledge is. In The New Natural Resource, he digs deeper into what it is and how it develops and subsequently leads to widespread change. The author argues that knowledge is inherently a social phenomenon. That is why social processes are closely linked to economic development, and why this relationship becomes even more apparent in the new knowledge economy. Knowledge is not an objective entity, established once and for all. Knowledge development is interrelated with values, norms, perceptions and interpretations. We need to know what the mechanisms are by which knowledge becomes legitimate, true and relevant.
