Intracranial arachnoid cysts are congenital malformations with a predilection for the middle cranial fossa and an estimated prevalence in the general population as high as 1.7%. The common assumption is that these cysts are incidental findings and the symptoms associated with them are not caused by the cyst and consequently, that surgical intervention will not benefit the patient. However, there is now a growing understanding reflected in the international literature among neurologists and neurosurgeons that arachnoid cysts do harm and that the patients' complaints can be relieved by surgical treatment. Arachnoid Cysts: Epidemiology, Biology, and Neuroimaging gives a broad and updated presentation of the condition, including epidemiology, etiology, biology (including genetics and molecular biology), and neuroimaging of same. This book is written for researchers, residents, and clinical practitioners in clinical neuroscience, neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and pediatrics.

It is estimated that the functionally significant body of knowledge for a given medical specialty changes radically every 8 years. New specialties and "sub-specialization" are occurring at approximately an equal rate. Historically, established journals have not been able either to absorb this increase in publishable material or to extend their readership to the new specialists. International and national meetings, symposia and seminars, workshops, and newsletters suc cessfully bring to the attention of physicians within developing spe cialties what is occurring, but generally only in demonstration form without providing historical perspective, pathoanatomical corre lates, or extensive discussion. Page and time limitations oblige the authors to present only the essence of their material. Pediatric neurosurgery is an example of a specialty that has de veloped during the past 15 years. Over this period neurosurgeons have obtained special training in pediatric neurosurgery and then dedicated themselves primarily to its practice. Centers, Chairs, and educational programs have been established as groups of neuro surgeons in different countries throughout the world organized themselves respectively into national and international societies for pediatric neurosurgery. These events were both preceded and fol lowed by specialized courses, national and international journals, and ever-increasing clinical and investigative studies into all aspects of surgically treatable diseases of the child's nervous system.

Maria McCutchen did not have time to be sick. With a husband who had just lost a job, two young sons, and a cross-country move on the horizon, who had time to be sick? Maria didn't have time for a common cold, let alone a major medical condition. But one day while shopping in the grocery store where she had shopped hundreds of times before, she couldn't find the milk. It was then she knew what she was feeling was more than just stress or exhaustion. There was something very wrong. After consulting a few doctors, Maria discovered she had a rare brain cyst known as a posterior fossa arachnoid cyst-a very large brain cyst. Hearing these cysts were normally asymptomatic was of little comfort, especially because she felt her mind and body slipping away more and more every day. Normal mental and physical functions were becoming harder to control. Even if the doctors didn't believe the cyst was a problem, she knew it was. It would take months of living inside a shell of a person that she'd become, months of living in a mental fogginess and sometimes even physical pain, before she would finally get the medical attention she needed. It's All in Your Head chronicles her harrowing medical odyssey and her attempts to regain some sort of semblance of her old life after treatment.

Atlas Of Sellar And Parasellar Lesions written by Gabriel Zada and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-27 with Medical categories.

This book presents, in a stepwise and interactive fashion, approximately 75 cases that reflect the wide spectrum of pathology encountered in this region. Each case description commences with a concise clinical scenario. High-quality radiologic, laboratory, and histopathologic images depicting the differentiating features of the lesion subtype in question are then presented, and key operative and clinical management pearls are briefly reviewed. The interdisciplinary nature of this easy-to-use color atlas and textbook reflects the fact that the management of patients with sellar and parasellar lesions is itself often interdisciplinary. The format is unique in that no similar interdisciplinary book is available on lesions of this region of the brain. Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions: Clinical, Imaging, and Pathologic Correlations is of great value for practitioners and trainees in a range of medical specialties, including radiology, neurology, endocriniology, pathology, oncology, radiation oncology, and neurosurgery.
