I contributi di questo secondo volume del numero 28 della Rivista si soffermano su più temi. Gli effetti dei cambiamenti climatici sul patrimonio costruito (Isabella Zamboni), che richiedono competenze e prospettive multidisciplinari. Il cantiere di un castello del Trecento, studiato “sulla base di un libro per la costruzione”, del quale è stata ritrovata la prima parte (Alessandro Monti). I cantieri di una chiesa, a cinque secoli di distanza uno dall’altro, entrambi alle prese con i danni sismici, reali o fittizi e dunque con divergenti interessi (Gian Pietro Brogiolo e Barbara Scala). Quattro saggi documentano stratigrafie e tecniche murarie tra l’età romana (Annalisa Garattoni per il villaggio di Nago in Trentino; Mirella Serlorenzi e Maura Fadda per lo scavo di un edificio nel tratto iniziale della via Appia, che ha rivelato una sequenza costruttiva compresa fra II e VII secolo d.C.) e il medioevo (Marco Biraghi, per il Castello Baradello di Como; Daniele Ferdani con numerosi collaboratori per la Seconda Torre di San Marino).

Archeologia dell’Architettura, XXVIII.1, 2023 – Archeologia del cantiere edile: temi ed esempi dall’Antichità al Medioevo Atti del Convegno (Università di Bologna, 21 maggio 2021, per via telematica) L’Archeologia del cantiere edile prende in esame le tracce lasciate dai costruttori durante il loro operato e i caratteri dei manufatti prodotti, concentrandosi principalmente sulle murature, al fine di comprendere il funzionamento di un cantiere in azione, in particolare l’organizzazione tecnico-logistica, le operazioni eseguite per il suo impianto, la programmazione del processo edilizio (filiera), le opere provvisionali, le macchine, i ruoli e le responsabilità delle persone coinvolte. Inoltre, indaga il mutamento di questi aspetti sul lungo periodo e cerca di spiegarne i motivi. Il convegno dal titolo “Archeologia del cantiere edile: temi ed esempi dall’Antichità al Medioevo”, tenutosi il 21 maggio 2021 su piattaforma Microsoft Teams, è stato organizzato dal Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà (DiSCi – Università di Bologna), nell’ambito delle attività didattiche e di ricerca promosse dall’insegnamento di Archeologia dell’architettura (Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni archeologici) e dal Laboratorio di Archeologia dell’architettura. Ogni relatore si è occupato di questo tema in relazione a uno specifico contesto territoriale e limitatamente a una determinata fascia cronologica. Inoltre, Giovanna Bianchi ed Andrea Augenti hanno discusso i risultati più importanti, offrendo spunti di riflessione e stimolando ulteriori ricerche.

This book collects essays by international scholars who engage with Roman-period architecture outside Rome and the Italian Peninsula, looking at the regions that formed part of the Roman Empire over a broad time frame: from the second century BCE to the third century CE. Moving beyond traditional views of ‘Roman provincial architecture’, the aim is to highlight the multi-faceted features of these architectures, their function, impact and significance within the local cultures, and the dynamic discourse between periphery and center. Dieci anni fa si celebrava il Quarantennale della Rivista con un numero speciale, un’occasione di riflessione su quanto si era fatto e su come la disciplina si era sviluppata, il tutto visto attraverso la storia di un periodico che ne aveva accompagnato il percorso fin dai primi passi. Il volume affrontava criticamente alcuni tematismi che, in un approccio essenzialmente di tipo storico-culturale, avevano attratto l’interesse dei ricercatori nel nostro Paese e, nel contempo, tentava possibili collegamenti con gli sviluppi dell’archeologia italiana ed europea, cogliendone criticità e punti di forza. Un volume che dunque era un bilancio sul passato, ma anche un possibile ponte verso il futuro. Dopo un decennio, in occasione dei Cinquanta anni della Rivista (gli anniversari restano numeri se non si coglie l’opportunità, che offrono, di un avanzamento critico), la Rivista pubblica un monografico dedicato al rapporto tra l’archeologia medievale e le “scienze dure”, dunque lo fa inserendosi in uno spazio che, forse più di altri, ha segnato in forme innovative la base epistemologica delle nostre ricerche. Ma non si tratta di un’eccezione, perché la Rivista, negli ultimi dieci anni, ha spesso promosso e pubblicato numeri monografici che hanno variamente intercettato e sviluppato temi di attualità: da quelli molto settoriali ma che affrontavano le potenzialità di nuove fonti (ad esempio il numero sulle anfore altomedievali); ad altri più vicini al mainstream storico ma letto attraverso una nuova lente archeologica (il numero sulla congiuntura del Trecento); ad altri, ancora, che tentavano un ripensamento del rapporto tra le archeologie post-antiche e il passato nelle loro più diverse declinazioni, inserendosi peraltro in un filone, oggi forse un po’ troppo alla moda, come quello dell’“archeologia pubblica” (pensiamo al numero su archeologia medievale ed identità). In sostanza, crediamo che la Rivista, oltre ad accogliere quanto di meglio le veniva offerto dalla ricerca nazionale, abbia saputo individuare e sviluppare percorsi autonomi e per certi versi originali, di cogliere quanto di innovativo maturava nell’ambito delle archeologie internazionali e cercare di tradurlo in proposte che guardassero ad un’archeologia del futuro svincolata dalle pastoie in cui è ancora confinata buona parte della nostra tradizione nazionale. Archeologia Medievale, in tutti questi anni, ha mantenuto il suo titolo “tipicamente accademico” ma anche il sottotitolo (Cultura materiale. Insediamenti. Territorio) che, fin dagli inizi, marcava un chiaro spazio autonomo ed originale di ricerca in ambito archeologico. La temperie culturale in cui era nata, la prima metà degli anni ’70, spiega molto di quel titolo e di quegli orientamenti, ma se la rigidità di certe posizioni ideologiche si è nel tempo mitigata e l’archeologia sembra giustamente andare oltre i confini cronologici nei quali è ancora accademicamente inserita, quel sottotitolo, nell’indicare un metodo e uno specifico spazio d’azione, resta ancora pienamente d’attualità […]

Il tema è quello dei siti industriali dismessi e tutelati per interesse storico. Partendo da un confronto tra i diversi approcci basati sullo studio delle best practice e dei diversi metodi e strumenti di analisi, sono state definite alcune premesse per la rappresentazione del sito e lo sviluppo di ipotesi di trasformazione per il riuso dell'ex Corradini a S. Giovanni. Stimolare il dibattito culturale, confrontarsi con realtà culturali diverse, definire percorsi metodologici replicabili sono gli obiettivi principali di questo lavoro./[English]: The book collects the contributions of an interdisciplinary work carried out during a BIP (Blended Intensive Program) funded by the European community. The topic is related to the abandoned industrial sites that are protected for historical interest. Starting from a comparison between the different approaches based on the study of the best practices and the different methods and tools of analysis, some premises have been defined for the representation of the site and the development of transformation hypotheses for reusing of the ex Corradini in S. Giovanni. Stimulating the cultural debate, dealing with different cultural realities, defining replicable methodological paths are the main objectives of this work.

Il dibattito sull’incastellamento ha compiuto 50 anni. I castelli, osservati dall’alto, paiono un corpo unico che nacque per modificare l’habitat: una grande rivoluzione attuata tra X e XIII secolo, ma non fu così. Ogni castello è frutto di dinamiche proprie e può non trovarsi in relazione con il suo vicino più prossimo. L’incastellamento non fece muovere tutte le forze in campo all’unisono e fu caratterizzato da un mosaico di motivazioni che impattarono, spesso, su scala micro-territoriale, senza poter essere incasellate rigidamente. Una base comune è evidente: aumentare la protezione. Le differenze stanno nell’oggetto che andava protetto. Un castello a difesa di un valico ha una ragione d’essere ben diversa da un castello realizzato a difesa di un sito di stoccaggio di prodotti fondiari (con relativo abitato). Quelle “ragioni di essere” si traducono nella materialità dei rinvenimenti archeologici, che in Europa caratterizzano un mosaico di situazioni che non possono essere incasellate rigidamente, come spesso è stato fatto. Questo volume propone esempi e linee di tendenza sulla nascita dei castelli in Adriatico, dall’Istria alla Puglia, frutto di ricerche archeologiche e topografiche che concorrono ad approfondire il dibattito internazionale sull’incastellamento attraverso nuovi dati sviluppati in un’ottica più traversale e meno dicotomica di quanto si sia postulato in passato.
