The Seven Basic Plots written by Christopher Booker and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-11-11 with Literary Criticism categories.

This remarkable and monumental book at last provides a comprehensive answer to the age-old riddle of whether there are only a small number of 'basic stories' in the world. Using a wealth of examples, from ancient myths and folk tales via the plays and novels of great literature to the popular movies and TV soap operas of today, it shows that there are seven archetypal themes which recur throughout every kind of storytelling. But this is only the prelude to an investigation into how and why we are 'programmed' to imagine stories in these ways, and how they relate to the inmost patterns of human psychology. Drawing on a vast array of examples, from Proust to detective stories, from the Marquis de Sade to E.T., Christopher Booker then leads us through the extraordinary changes in the nature of storytelling over the past 200 years, and why so many stories have 'lost the plot' by losing touch with their underlying archetypal purpose. Booker analyses why evolution has given us the need to tell stories and illustrates how storytelling has provided a uniquely revealing mirror to mankind's psychological development over the past 5000 years. This seminal book opens up in an entirely new way our understanding of the real purpose storytelling plays in our lives, and will be a talking point for years to come.

Any change in a persons life or an organization is a story. And, of course, like a story, there must be charactersactors. Some actors in the story of change are heroes. Some are villains. Some are key actors and have powerful and influential roles in the change narrative. Others have bit roles; they seem insignificant and less important. Each person in the change dialogue, however, will tell the story over and over. Generations later will give an account of remember when we had to change that. Sometimes the story is a good story. Often it is a bad story. This book is a guidebook, a script, to help assure we have more purposeful actors creating more positive stories of change. Those successful stories would replace what we often hearnegative narratives of failed and incomplete ventures. Simply stated, these negative narratives are seldom pretty. Those telling the story will tell their version of the events. They will speak of everyones part and how so and so tried to roadblock the change. They will speak of the fellow who tried to change everyones attitude. They will tell the story of the character who tried to legislate the change and almost created an insurrection. They will speak of all the roles. They will seldom speak of their own role, however. Depending on how the change unfolded, they may pretend to be in the audience of change, simply watching and evaluating each act in the drama of change. But everyone knows they had a role as well. This book is a guidebook to identify the roles...everyones role. Those roles can be characterized as archetypes. This book is a guidebook to identify the archetypal roles that are played and must be played during the change process.

Why did your life turn out this way? Who are the most important people in your world? What would you do differently, if you had the chance? Ever since you were a child, you have been writing your life script. You use fragments of story to weave your own personal narrative. The parts in your script are acted by people around you. Some of the oldest stories in the world are the ones called myths. The characters in them are easy to recognize: the princess, the hero, the good mother, the wise old man. These characters are based on universal figures called ‘archetypes’. LifeWorks introduces the twelve major archetypes, with examples from books and films. For each figure, there is a story, followed by points to consider and tasks to perform. You use classic stories and archetypal figures to compose your own life script. LifeWorks is a practical handbook which combines insights from psychology and anthropology. You will learn how to identify relationship patterns and life themes. Stories and exercises help you to develop your own personal mythology.

Archetypal Explorations written by Richard M. Gray and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09-02 with Psychology categories.

Archetypal Expressions is a fresh approach to one of Jung's best-know and most exciting concepts. Richard M. Gray uses archetypes as the basis for a new means of interpreting the world and lays the foundations of what he terms an "archetypal sociology". Jung's ideas are combined with elements of modern biology and systems theory to explore the basic human experiences of life, which recur through the ages. Revealing the implicitly cross-cultural and interdisciplinary nature of Jungian Psychology, Archetypal Explorations represents a significant contribution to the literature of archetypes and integrative approaches to human behaviour.

Archetype Culture And The Individual In Education written by Clifford Mayes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-16 with Education categories.

In Archetype, Culture, and the Individual in Education: The Three Pedagogical Narratives, Clifford Mayes presents a unique approach to understanding how Jungian principles can inform pedagogical theory and practice. In a time when what the educational historian Lawrence Cremin called the 'military-industrial-educational complex' and its standardized education are running roughshod over the psyche and spirit of students, Mayes deploys depth psychology, especially the work of Jung, to advance an archetypal approach to teaching and learning. Mayes demonstrates how catastrophic it is to students when the classroom is governed by forces that objectify the individual in a paralysing stranglehold. He argues that one’s life-narrative is significantly impacted by one’s narrative as a learner; thus, schooling that commodifies learning and turns the student into an object has neuroticizing effects that will spread throughout that student’s entire life. In Part I, Mayes explores the interaction between archetypes and various types of time—ultimately focusing on the individual but always mediated by ‘the cultural unconscious’. In Parts II and III, he brings together education with (post-)Jungian and (post-)Freudian psychology, examining transference/countertransference in the classroom; the Jungian idea of ‘the shadow’ applied to educational processes; Jung’s unique vision of ‘the symbol’ and its importance for educational theory; and Jung’s ‘transcendent function’ as a prime educational modality. Mayes concludes by looking to the future of archetypal pedagogy. This groundbreaking work in the emerging field of Jungian pedagogy is invaluable reading in Jungian Studies, depth psychological theory, educational theory, and for teachers and psychotherapists.

A Theory Of Musical Narrative written by Byron Almén and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-04 with Music categories.

Byron Almén proposes an original synthesis of approaches to musical narrative from literary criticism, semiotics, historiography, musicology, and music theory, resulting in a significant critical reorientation of the field. This volume includes an extensive survey of traditional approaches to musical narrative illustrated by a wide variety of musical examples that highlight the range and applicability of the theoretical apparatus. Almén provides a careful delineation of the essential elements and preconditions of musical narrative organization, an eclectic analytical model applicable to a wide range of musical styles and repertoires, a classification scheme of narrative types and subtypes reflecting conceptually distinct narrative strategies, a wide array of interpretive categories, and a sensitivity to the dependence of narrative interpretation on the cultural milieu of the work, its various audiences, and the analyst. A Theory of Musical Narrative provides both an excellent introduction to an increasingly important conceptual domain and a complex reassessment of its possibilities and characteristics.
