Luxury Arts Of The Renaissance written by Marina Belozerskaya and has been published by Getty Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10-01 with Art categories.

Today we associate the Renaissance with painting, sculpture, and architecture—the “major” arts. Yet contemporaries often held the “minor” arts—gem-studded goldwork, richly embellished armor, splendid tapestries and embroideries, music, and ephemeral multi-media spectacles—in much higher esteem. Isabella d’Este, Marchesa of Mantua, was typical of the Italian nobility: she bequeathed to her children precious stone vases mounted in gold, engraved gems, ivories, and antique bronzes and marbles; her favorite ladies-in-waiting, by contrast, received mere paintings. Renaissance patrons and observers extolled finely wrought luxury artifacts for their exquisite craftsmanship and the symbolic capital of their components; paintings and sculptures in modest materials, although discussed by some literati, were of lesser consequence. This book endeavors to return to the mainstream material long marginalized as a result of historical and ideological biases of the intervening centuries. The author analyzes how luxury arts went from being lofty markers of ascendancy and discernment in the Renaissance to being dismissed as “decorative” or “minor” arts—extravagant trinkets of the rich unworthy of the status of Art. Then, by re-examining the objects themselves and their uses in their day, she shows how sumptuous creations constructed the world and taste of Renaissance women and men.

This richly illustrated and valuable resource reaches back five centuries to document the evolution and ingenuity of house design in the British Isles. The architecture of Britain's houses displays a dizzying variety of styles and details. Brimming with 600 full-colour photographs, House annotates hundreds of examples from every conceivable angle: from gables and pediments to chimneys and roofs; from bow windows and casements to fanlights and door furniture. Armed with a career's worth of experience and research, Philippa Lewis takes readers up and down the country to feature examples of typically British building, including cottages, manor houses, castles, bungalows, and flats. She also looks at houses built from a wide variety of materials, including stone, glass, wood, brick, and even corrugated iron, in different settings such as rural, suburban, seaside, and urban. Lively texts help identify specific details and place them in their historical context, as well as offering compelling examples of how innovative conversions of structures such as watermills, gatehouses, and churches reflect and sustain their environment. Readers interested in architectural history and design, and anyone looking to understand the nooks and crannies of their own home, will find this unique guide the most eye-opening and comprehensive of its kind. AUTHOR: Philippa Lewis is the author of Everything You Can Do in the Garden without Actually Gardening and co-author of A Dictionary of Ornament. She lives in Somerset, England. 650 colour images REDUCED FROM $70.00

Architecture In Detail written by Graham Bizley and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Architecture categories.

This book is a collection of detailed studies of recent construction projects that will help all architects learn and expand the possibilities of their own work. Projects have been selected for their use of innovative techniques, and these insights could help overcome problems, reduce a project's cost, speed up work on site or help with an idea that is hard to achieve. Each project within the book consists of striking detailed drawings, supplemented by color photographs and explanatory text. These details are an excellent way to see how others are using new materials and techniques that may be relevant to an architect's own work. It can seem daunting for a student, or even a qualified architect, to see high-quality, interesting buildings when the project or daily workload is a lot more humdrum. This book demystifies construction and spreads knowledge of good practice. The author is well known as he has a biweekly feature in Building Design, the UK's most read magazine by architects. The projects have been carefully selected from those published and have been adapted and expanded to create a really useful reference.

Drawing Futures written by Bob Sheil and has been published by UCL Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-11 with Architecture categories.

Drawing Futures brings together international designers and artists for speculations in contemporary drawing for art and architecture.Despite numerous developments in technological manufacture and computational design that provide new grounds for designers, the act of drawing still plays a central role as a vehicle for speculation. There is a rich and long history of drawing tied to innovations in technology as well as to revolutions in our philosophical understanding of the world. In reflection of a society now underpinned by computational networks and interfaces allowing hitherto unprecedented views of the world, the changing status of the drawing and its representation as a political act demands a platform for reflection and innovation. Drawing Futures will present a compendium of projects, writings and interviews that critically reassess the act of drawing and where its future may lie.Drawing Futures focuses on the discussion of how the field of drawing may expand synchronously alongside technological and computational developments. The book coincides with an international conference of the same name, taking place at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, in November 2016. Bringing together practitioners from many creative fields, the book discusses how drawing is changing in relation to new technologies for the production and dissemination of ideas.

Extraordinary architecture addresses so much more than mere practical considerations. It inspires and provokes while creating a seamless experience of the physical world for its users. It is the rare writer that can frame the discussion of a building in a way that allows the reader to see it with new eyes. Writing About Architecture is a handbook on writing effectively and critically about buildings and cities. Each chapter opens with a reprint of a significant essay written by a renowned architecture critic, followed by a close reading and discussion of the writer's strategies. Lange offers her own analysis using contemporary examples as well as a checklist of questions at the end of each chapter to help guide the writer. This important addition to the Architecture Briefs series is based on the author's design writing courses at New York University and the School of Visual Arts. Lange also writes a popular online column for Design Observer and has written for Dwell, Metropolis, New York magazine, and The New York Times. Writing About Architecture includes analysis of critical writings by Ada Louise Huxtable, Lewis Mumford, Herbert Muschamp, Michael Sorkin, Charles Moore, Frederick Law Olmsted, and Jane Jacobs. Architects covered include Marcel Breuer, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Field Operations, Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, Frederick Law Olmsted, SOM, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
