Information architecture has changed dramatically since the mid-1990s and earlier conceptions of the world and the internet being different and separate have given way to a much more complex scenario in the present day. In the post-digital world that we now inhabit the digital and the physical blend easily and our activities and usage of information takes place through multiple contexts and via multiple devices and unstable, emergent choreographies. Information architecture now is steadily growing into a channel- or medium-specific multi-disciplinary framework, with contributions coming from architecture, urban planning, design and systems thinking, cognitive science, new media, anthropology. All these have been heavily reshaping the practice: conversations about labelling, websites, and hierarchies are replaced by conversations about sense-making, place-making, design, architecture, cross media, complexity, embodied cognition and their application to the architecture of information spaces as places we live in in an increasingly large part of our lives. Via narratives, frameworks, references, approaches and case-studies this book explores these changes and offers a way to reconceptualize the shifting role and nature of information architecture where information permeates digital and physical space, users are producers and products are increasingly becoming complex cross-channel or multi-channel services.

The book is about Sakaushi's view of space, with base in the idea that a buildings architectural features disappear little by little from the user's horizon of consciousness as indicator of a gradual familiarizing process or "somatization" over time. Thus the author want to design dwellings that keep their freshness for as long as possible.

"The picture frame is a centuries-old art form, yet they have become mainly another background object of everyday life. Through an instrumental case study, this research explores the concept of sustainable development pathways inside the Picture Framing Industry (PFI) as of 2019. The primary focus is on what type of dialogue is being publicly offered to stakeholders by manufacturers and trade associations regarding sustainable development. A secondary focus is on how understanding the roles and involvement of stakeholders as adult learners can propel education initiatives throughout the industry. With little more than 10 years to reach the UN 2030 Agenda, all design industries should be actively applying the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This research ultimately found notable gaps in dialogue and education in the North American PFI. As of 2019, there was not a single educational presentation, paneled discussion, or seminar available through manufacturers or direct trade associations that outlines anything related to sustainability. Because picture framing is a niche industry positioned between the broader architecture, furniture, and interior design industries, it has a more significant responsibility towards sustainable stewardship. The ability for the Picture Framing Industry (PFI) to learn from and inspire other, broader design industries is paramount to the future of all the stake holders involved. The findings of this research will propel a dissemination strategy that will straddle both professional and academic interests."--leaf 3.

This research project explores the relationship between the tourist, landscape and architecture. The design of the architecture answers the question: How can tourism architecture inform tourists' perceptions of a landscape which has experienced natural disaster? The outcome of this research was the Kaikoura Peninsula Museum Hotel. The hotel is located on the famous and picturesque Kaikoura Peninsula walkway, in the South Island of New Zealand. The design responses to provide tourists with a more profound experience of the New Zealand landscape. In particular, Kaikoura, which has recently suffered natural disaster, an earthquake, was selected to help tourists explore the new picturesque landscape and allow them to experience the relationship between themselves and the landscape in an architectural way. The Kaikoura Peninsula Museum Hotel embodies the original contributions to knowledge made by this research. This research project researched, established and fused architecture into the picturesque landscape. The role of the architecture, is to bridge the gap between human and landscape; in particular, it satisfies tourist psychology by highlighting the landscape and the picturesque that suffered in the natural disaster. The architecture provides a positive view of the restructured fragment of the new landscape. Architecture and architectural monuments, as a defining component of societies, inherently contain the essence of permanence. For architecture to be permanent, it must embody an overall totality of relevance. Totality can be defined as methodical, systematic, and regimented ordering. Regimented architectural order consists of repetitive elements, spaces, and forms. Rigid ordering produces static compositions grounded in geometric patterns, forms, and rhythms. Architecture, as the ubiquitous construct that people inhabit, is a backdrop to the occupants who inhabit, travel through, and interact with it. Unlike the stationary nature of architecture, its occupants are temporal and transient. Therefore, the static backdrop of architecture juxtaposes and frames the temporal movement of the occupant. Framing represents objectifying, bringing attention to an object in a manner other than it is normally perceived. Thus, when architecture frames its occupant, the occupant is represented to oneself. Likewise, the heterotopia as defined, frames the occupant to and from society. Although heterotopias are societal constructs, they are housed by architecture. Therefore, architecture of permanence is the realized heterotopia. Herein lays an investigation into the nature of how architecture can and does frame or represent the occupant to oneself through the architectural vehicle of a funerary complex, or necropolis. The necropolis, as architecture and a heterotopia, acts in the capacity of a frame. Through its overall composition, scale, forms, and materials, it represents its occupants to themselves.

Reframing Berlin written by Christopher S. Wilson and has been published by Intellect (UK) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-09 with categories.

A study of the ways Berlin has been depicted in cinema and the ways its architectural transformations inform our understanding of the city and its memories. Concerned with the connection between the built environment and the passage of time, Reframing Berlin uses film locations in the city to reveal the influence that urban transformation has on memory-making. Covering the city's history since the beginning of cinema, the book proposes the term urban strategy to understand the range of consequential actions taken by politicians, developers, and other powerful figures to shape the nature and future of buildings, streets, and districts. Organizing these strategies from demolition to memorialization, the authors study the ways these actions forget or recall aspects of place. Using cinematic representations of Berlin as an audiovisual archive, the study details how the city has adjusted to its traumatic twentieth-century history through architectural transformations. Two dissimilar case studies frame each strategy, indicating that an approach that works for one building may not be sufficient for another.
