"The exhibition--based on Bernard Tschumi's work as an architect, educator, and writer--explores the making of architecture as a series of arguments, ideas, influences, and responses to the contemporary definition of architecture today. Tschumi's major architectural projects are organized around two primary ideas and five themes. These primary ideas are concept and notation: there is no architecture without an idea or concept, just as there is no architecture without a method of notation to express its content. Architecture is not a study of form, but rather a form of knowledge. The five thematic zones in the exhibition each propose a fundamental area in the definition of architecture. The themes are: Space and Event; Program and Superposition; Vectors and Envelopes; Context and Content; and Concept-Form. Tschumi illustrates these themes through a series of well-known and lesser-known projects, from the historic Parc de Ia Villette in Paris to later projects such as the Acropolis Museum in Athens, as well as the new architecture for the redesign for the Paris Zoological Park. Alongside the projects are a series of tables that extend and amplify the main narrative of the exhibition through topics related to architectural thought and production"--Provided by publisher.

Tschumi Parc de la Villette is the first publication to document comprehensively Bernard Tschumi's first, and arguably still most celebrated project. With new and republished writing including a text by Bernard Tschumi and Anthony Vidler's "Trick-Track" originally published in 1986, alongside a newly-commissioned essay assesing the Parc from a contemporary and historical perspective, this book documents Parc de la Villette from its conception, through the 30 years of its existence, to the present. Tschumi Parc de la Villette includes drawings, concept sketches, models and photographs showing the development of the Parc over three decades, brought together in a single volume for the first time since the 1980s. One of the "Grands Projets" commissioned by the French Government in the 1980s, Parc de la Villette set a benchmark for urban parks in the latter part of the twentieth century and into the twenty-first. Tschumi constructed a series of follies across the site, creating what he called "the largest discontinuous building in the world". Published to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Parc, Tschumi Parc de la Villette broadly celebrates the project, and articularly the way in which it has been embraced by generations of Parisians and a diverse international public.

Dance has been used in many instances to influence architecture in the past. By establishing space and movement as the commonalities between these two realms, we can begin to look at specific instances where space and movement are used in architecture. Establishing ways in which movement notation is used in dance can begin to convey how movement is prescribed in very specific way through ways of representation. Looking at how movement plays a role in within the architectural promenade can help generate an idea of conditions that make up a promenade experience. The idea behind looking closely at movement notation and the architectural promenade is to begin to discover ways in which an architectural notation might be developed to prescribe more experiential moments that might occur throughout a path of procession in an effort to create a more experiential architectural promenade.

Architectural Design written by Chris A. Vissers and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-30 with Computers categories.

This book presents a design methodology that is practically applicable to the architectural design of a broad range of systems. It is based on fundamental design concepts to conceive and specify the required functional properties of a system, while abstracting from the specific implementation functions and technologies that can be chosen to build the system. Abstraction and precision are indispensable when it comes to understanding complex systems and precisely creating and representing them at a high functional level. Once understood, these concepts appear natural, self-evident and extremely powerful, since they can directly, precisely and concisely reflect what is considered essential for the functional behavior of a system. The first two chapters present the global views on how to design systems and how to interpret terms and meta-concepts. This informal introduction provides the general context for the remainder of the book. On a more formal level, Chapters 3 through 6 present the main basic design concepts, illustrating them with examples. Language notations are introduced along with the basic design concepts. Lastly, Chapters 7 to 12 discuss the more intricate basic design concepts of interactive systems by focusing on their common functional goal. These chapters are recommended to readers who have a particular interest in the design of protocols and interfaces for various systems. The didactic approach makes it suitable for graduate students who want to develop insights into and skills in developing complex systems, as well as practitioners in industry and large organizations who are responsible for the design and development of large and complex systems. It includes numerous tangible examples from various fields, and several appealing exercises with their solutions.

The study of architecture has acquired an increased share of public attention during the author's era, but according to his opinion, it has been too exclusively confined to the Medieval and Ecclesiastical styles. With that in mind, this book is released to the public to teach them about the Ancient and Classic Architecture styles.
