In this seminal work originally published in 1992, an insider account from the man who paid off the Iranians for the American hostages Ari Ben-Menashe spent more than a decade in the innermost circles of Israeli intelligence. He was privy to the secret negotiations with the Iranians to delay the release of the American hostages until after the election of Ronald Reagan, he enlisted Robert Gates in the transfer of the $52 million payoff to Iran, and was Robert Maxwell's handler. Ben-Menashe brokered secret Israeli arms sales on four continents and briefed George Bush on the vast arms network. He saw Israel's own nuclear arsenal develop, and watched his masters sponsor monstrous terrorist acts in the name of a higher good. Then, as he questioned the immorality around him, he was cut off and set up. This is the full story of the man who oversaw the accumulation of hundreds of millions of dollars in CIA and Israeli intelligence slush funds.

Two prominent Israeli liberals argue that for the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians to end with peace, Palestinians must come to terms with the fact that there will be no "right of return." In 1948, seven hundred thousand Palestinians were forced out of their homes by the first Arab-Israeli War. More than seventy years later, most of their houses are long gone, but millions of their descendants are still registered as refugees, with many living in refugee camps. This group—unlike countless others that were displaced in the aftermath of World War II and other conflicts—has remained unsettled, demanding to settle in the state of Israel. Their belief in a "right of return" is one of the largest obstacles to successful diplomacy and lasting peace in the region. In The War of Return, Adi Schwartz and Einat Wilf—both liberal Israelis supportive of a two-state solution—reveal the origins of the idea of a right of return, and explain how UNRWA - the very agency charged with finding a solution for the refugees - gave in to Palestinian, Arab and international political pressure to create a permanent “refugee” problem. They argue that this Palestinian demand for a “right of return” has no legal or moral basis and make an impassioned plea for the US, the UN, and the EU to recognize this fact, for the good of Israelis and Palestinians alike. A runaway bestseller in Israel, the first English translation of The War of Return is certain to spark lively debate throughout America and abroad.

The novel is a mythological retelling of Adolf Hitler's rise to power in Germany and the ensuing war he brought about which engulfed the entire world and came to be known as the Second World War. The narrator, Ledeville, is a master of creative evil concepts. After studying the mind set of several possibilities, he selected Adolf as his instrument of destruction since he saw in him the perfect specimen for his purposes. He stayed close to Adolf at all times as he rose to his position as leader of Germany and advised him on all matters of ideology, politics, moral interpretation and how and when to wage his battles, turning him gradually into a force of evil. Sensing danger, the Lord intervened and made a wager with Ledeville that he could change Adolf to a force for good. "And if I win?" Ledeville asked. "Humanity and the world are yours," the Lord replied. Amused, the Evil One accepted the wager, fully aware of men's gradual rejection of the Lord's ways which had weakened him considerably over the years. Ledeville intended to use his youthfulness and energy to outwit and oust the ageing Lord and rule over the whole universe. Adolf followed Ledeville's instructions and became a ferocious, unforgiving warrior. Despite this apparent ferocity, he was in fact a plaything in Ledeville's hands as he was guided and pushed relentlessly towards decisions that would finally bring apocalypse to the earth, Ledeville's ultimate goal. Will the Lord finally regain his powers and save the world from absolute destruction, or will he lose his wager and let humanity go to the Devil?......

During the Six-Day War in 1967, Bethlehem and east Jerusalem were captured by the Israelis, and sovereign dominion of the holy city returned to the Jews for the first time in over two thousand years. At that time, a Dead Sea artifact, the Temple Scroll, was confiscated by the Israeli government. None of the Dead Sea Scrolls have surfaced in any official quarter since. Andrei Vartanyan is a ruthless, special intelligence operative for the former Soviet Union who has a reputation for getting what he wants at any cost. Vartanyan is hot on the trail of a lost scroll, rumored to hold the key to unlocking the secrets of 64 hidden treasure sites described in the famous Copper Scroll. And he'll stop at nothing--not even murder--to get it. Jack Calumet is one of the most proficient operatives the CIA has ever fielded. Calumet has gone up against Vartanyan once before, outfoxing him and levying a brilliant disinformation coup against the Russian and his comrades. But in the process, he lost the woman he loved. Now, Jack Calumet wants revenge. But a shocking discovery with worldwide implications makes it clear that there is more to this top secret operation than he ever dreamed. And as the British, the Russians, the Arabs, the Israelis, and even the Vatican join in the chase, the stakes become higher than ever before. A powerful revelation concerning the Word of God and the foundation upon which it is based will stand or fall as Heaven's War reaches its final battle.

War wounds the soul. It is not only the violence that warfighters suffer against them that harms, but also the violence that they do. These soul wounds have come to be known as moral injuries: psychic traumas that occur from having done or condoned that which goes against deeply held moral principles. It is not surprising that the committing of atrocities or the accidental killing of the innocent would hurt the soul of warfighters. The problem is that many warfighters at least tacitly follow the commonplace belief that killing another human being is always wrong--it's just that sometimes, as in war, it is necessary. This paradoxical commitment makes the very business of warfighting morally injurious. This problem is also a crisis. Clinical research among combat veterans has established a link between killing in combat and moral injury and between moral injury and suicide. Our warfighters, even those who have served honorably and with the right intentions, are dying by their own hands at devastating rates--casualties not of the physical threats of war, but of the moral ones. It does not have to be this way. The just war tradition, a moral framework for thinking about war that flows out of our Greco-Roman and Hebraic intellectual traditions, is grounded in the basic truth that killing comes in different kinds. While some kinds of killing, like murder, are always wrong, there are other kinds of killing that are morally neutral, such as unavoidable accidents, and still other kinds that are morally permitted--even, sometimes, obligatory. The Good Kill embraces this tradition to argue for the morality of killing in justified wars. Marc LiVecche does not deny the morally bruising realities of combat, but offers potential remedies to help our warfighters manage the bruising without becoming irreparably morally injured.
