Le Giornate di archeologia, arte e storia del Vicino e Medio Oriente che si sono svolte a Milano dal 20 al 22 ottobre 2022 sono un appuntamento ormai consolidato. Organizzate per l’ottavo anno dalla Fondazione Terra Santa, offrono incontri che permettono di condividere la ricchezza dei temi proposti. Temi che nell’VIII edizione hanno spaziato dal cinema alle crisi ambientali, dalla storia francescana ad alcune affascinanti novità della ricerca storica e archeologica. Cinema, sguardi di celluloide sulla Terra Santa è il titolo del pomeriggio (giovedì 20 ottobre) che è stato dedicato ai documentari storici realizzati dalla Custodia di Terra Santa negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta, recentemente restaurati e digitalizzati. Le Giornate sono state anche l’occasione per approfondire quattro momenti cruciali della vita di Francesco d’Assisi, in vario modo legati alla Terra Santa e dei quali si fa memoria a partire dal 2023: l’approvazione della Regola, la rappresentazione della nascita di Gesù nel Presepe di Greccio, il dono delle Stimmate alla Verna, la composizione del Cantico di Frate Sole. Questi episodi ci accompagneranno fino al 2026, ottavo centenario del transito di Francesco. La sessione mattutina di venerdì 21 ottobre (Crisi ambientali e guerra dell’acqua in Medio Oriente) ha offerto invece una panoramica sui cambiamenti climatici, la scarsità di risorse idriche e l’insicurezza alimentare che agitano il Medio Oriente, l’area del mondo con le maggiori fragilità davanti al riscaldamento globale. Infine, Egitto, Mesopotamia e Armenia sono tra i temi della Giornata dedicata all’archeologia (sabato 22: Dal Nilo alla Via della Seta), che si è conclusa con un intervento sulla valorizzazione dei reperti archeologici della Rotonda del Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme. In his book In the Shadow of the Church: The Building of Mosques in Early Medieval Syria Mattia Guidetti examines the establishment of Muslim religious architecture within the Christian context in which it first appeared in the Syrian region, contributing to the debate on the transformation of late antique society to a Muslim one. He scrutinizes the slow process of conversion to Islam of the most important town centers by looking at religious places of both communities between the seventh and the eleventh century. The author assesses the relevancy of churches by analyzing the location of mosques and by researching phenomena of transfer of marble material from churches to mosques.
