A distância no tempo e no espaço é uma tentativa de oferecer certo recuo ao leitor, o que poderá permitir que ele veja o autista de uma perspectiva diferente daquela, organicista e reducionista, que é dominante nos dias atuais. O trabalho de Marguerite é uma maneira de apresentar o tratamento psicanalítico, avant la lettre, de um autista. A autora reúne, aqui, o que ela atravessou em seus anos de experiência com o autismo.
