Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are adaptive systems inspired by the biological immune system and applied to problem solving. This book provides an accessible introduction that will be suitable for anyone who is beginning to study or work in this area. It gives a clear definition of an AIS, sets out the foundations of the topic (including basic algorithms), and analyses how the immune system relates to other biological systems and processes. No prior knowledge of immunology is needed - all the essential background information is covered in the introductory chapters. Key features of the book include: - A discussion of AIS in the context of Computational Intelligence; - Case studies in Autonomous Navigation, Computer Network Security, Job-Shop Scheduling and Data Analysis =B7 An extensive survey of applications; - A framework to help the reader design and understand AIS; - A web site with additional resources including pseudocodes for immune algorithms, and links to related sites. Written primarily for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary and Biologically Inspired Computing, this book will also be of interest to industrial and academic researchers working in related areas.

Artificial immune systems are highly distributed systems based on the principles of the natural system. This is a new and rapidly growing field offering powerful and robust information processing capabilities for solving complex problems. Like artificial neural networks, artificial immune systems can learn new information, recall previously learned information, and perform pattern recognition in a highly decentralized fashion. This volume provides an overview of the immune system from the computational viewpoint. It discusses computational models of the immune system and their applications, and provides a wealth of insights on immunological memory and the effects of viruses in immune response. It will be of professional interest to scientists, academics, vaccine designers, and practitioners.

Arti?cial immune systems (AIS) is a diverse and maturing area of research that bridges the disciplines of immunology and computation. The original research impetus in AIS had a clear focus on applying immunological principles to c- putationalproblemsinpracticaldomainssuchascomputersecurity, datamining and optimization. As the ?eld has matured, it has diversi?ed such that we now see a growing interest in formalizing the theoretical properties of earlier - proaches, elaborating underlying relationships between applied computational models and those from theoretical immunology, as well a return to the roots of the domain in which the methods of computer science are being applied to - munological modelling problems. Following the trends in the ?eld, the ICARIS conference intends to provide a forum for all these perspectives. The 9th InternationalConference on AIS (ICARIS 2010)built on the success of previous years, providing a convenient vantage point for broader re?ection as it returned to Edinburgh, the venue of the Second ICARIS in 2003. This time, the conference was hosted by Edinburgh Napier University at its Craiglockhart Campus, recently reopened after extensive refurbishment which has resulted in a stunning building and state-of-the-art facilities. The extent to which the ?eld has matured over the preceding years is clear; a substantial track of theor- ical research now underpins the discipline. The applied stream has expanded in its outlook, and has examples of AIS algorithms being applied across a wide spectrum of practicalproblems, rangingfrom sensornetworksto semi-conductor design.

What Is Artificial Immune Systems In the field of artificial intelligence, artificial immune systems (AIS) are a classification of rule-based, computationally intelligent machine learning systems that take their cues from the fundamentals and procedures of the immune system of vertebrates. When it comes to finding solutions to problems, algorithms are frequently based after the learning and memory capabilities of the immune system. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Artificial immune system Chapter 2: Immunology Chapter 3: Adaptive immune system Chapter 4: Computational immunology Chapter 5: Clonal selection algorithm Chapter 6: Immune network theory Chapter 7: Evolutionary computation Chapter 8: Bio-inspired computing Chapter 9: Glossary of artificial intelligence Chapter 10: Rule-based machine learning (II) Answering the public top questions about artificial immune systems. (III) Real world examples for the usage of artificial immune systems in many fields. Arti?cial immune systems (AIS) is a diverse and maturing area of research that bridges the disciplines of immunology and engineering. The scope of AIS ranges fromimmune-inspiredalgorithmsandengineeringsolutionsinsoftwareandha- ware, to the understanding of immunology through modeling and simulation of immune system concepts. AIS algorithms have been applied to a wide variety of applications, including computer security, fault tolerance, data mining and optimization. In addition, theoretical aspects of arti?cial and real immune s- tems have been the subject of mathematical and computational models and simulations. The 8th InternationalConference on AIS (ICARIS 2009)built on the success of previous years, providing a forum for a diverse group of AIS researchers to present and discuss their latest results and advances. After two years outside Europe, ICARIS 2009 returned to England, the venue for the ?rst ICARIS back in 2002. This year’s conference was located in the historic city of York, and was held in St. William’s College, the conference venue of York Minster, northern Europe’s largest Gothic cathedral.
