During recent decades we have witnessed not only the introduction of automation into the work environment but we have also seen a dramatic change in how automation has influenced the conditions of work. While some 30 years ago the addition of a computer was considered only for routine and boring tasks in support of humans, the balance has dramatically shifted to the computer being able to perform almost any task the human is willing to delegate. The very fast pace of change in processor and information technology has been the main driving force behind this development. Advances in automation and especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) have enabled the formation of a rather unique team with human and electronic members. The team is still supervised by the human with the machine as a subordinate associate or assistant, sharing responsibility, authority and autonomy over many tasks. The requirement for teaming human and machine in a highly dynamic and unpredictable task environment has led to impressive achievements in many supporting technologies. These include methods for system analysis, design and engineering and in particular for information processing, for cognitive and complex knowledge [1] engineering .

Logic For Artificial Intelligence And Information Technology written by Dov M. Gabbay and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Computers categories.

Logic for Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology is based on student notes used to teach logic to second year undergraduates and Artificial Intelligence to graduate students at the University of London since1984, first at Imperial College and later at King's College. Logic has been applied to a wide variety of subjects such as theoretical computer science, software engineering, hardware design, logic programming, computational linguistics and artificial intelligence. In this way it has served to stimulate the research for clear conceptual foundations. Over the past 20 years many extensions of classical logic such as temporal, modal, relevance, fuzzy, probabilistic and non-monotoinic logics have been widely used in computer science and artificial intelligence, therefore requiring new formulations of classical logic, which can be modified to yield the effect of the new applied logics. The text introduces classical logic in a goal directed way which can easily deviate into discussing other applied logics. It defines the many types of logics and differences between them. Dov Gabbay, FRSC, FAvH, FRSA, FBCS, is Augustus De Morgan Professor of Logic at the University of London. He has written over 300 papers in logic and over 20 books. He is Editor-in-Chief of several leading journals and has published over 50 handbooks of logic volumes. He is a world authority on applied logics and is one of the directors and founder of the UK charity the International Federation of Computational Logic

The Question Of Artificial Intelligence written by Brian P. Bloomfield and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-15 with Social Science categories.

Originally published in 1987 when Artificial Intelligence (AI) was one of the most hotly debated subjects of the moment; there was widespread feeling that it was a field whose ‘time had come’, that intelligent machines lay ‘just around the corner’. Moreover, with the onset of the revolution in information technology and the proclamation from all corners that we were moving into an ‘information society’, developments in AI and advanced computing were seen in many countries as having both strategic and economic importance. Yet, aside from the glare of publicity that tends to surround new scientific ideas or technologies, it must be remembered that AI was a relative newcomer among the sciences; that it had often been the subject of bitter controversy; and that though it had been promising to create intelligent machines for some 40 years prior to publication, many believe that it had actually displayed very little substantive progress. With this background in mind, the aim of this collection of essays was to take a novel look at AI. Rather than following the path of old well-trodden arguments about definitions of intelligence or the status of computer chess programs, the objective was to bring new perspectives to the subject in order to present it in a different light. Indeed, instead of simply adding to the endless wrangling ‘for’ and ‘against’ AI, the source of such divisions is made a topic for analysis in its own right. Drawing on ideas from the philosophy and sociology of scientific knowledge, this collection therefore broke new ground. Moreover, although a great deal had been written about the social and cultural impact of AI, little had been said of the culture of AI scientists themselves – including their discourse and style of thought, as well as the choices, judgements, negotiations and competitive struggles for resources that had shaped the genesis and development of the paradigmatic structure of their discipline at the time. Yet, sociologists of science have demonstrated that the analysis of factors such as these is a necessary part of understanding the development of scientific knowledge. Hence, it was hoped that this collection would help to redress the imbalance and provide a broader and more interesting picture of AI.
