Arturo Zancada y Conchillos (1847-1912), zaragozano de nacimiento pero altoaragonés (más concretamente barbastrense) de fuero y adopción, llegaría a ser uno de los principales patrocinadores de la vida cultural y literaria de la Restauración española merced al impulso de sus dos grandes empresas periodísticas, La Ilustración Militar (1880-1884) y su sucesora La Ilustración Nacional (1884-1901). Esta monografía pretende esclarecer tanto la biografía de aquel militar Zancada -que en 1868 había fundado ya El Barbastrense-, y su decidido impulso liberal dentro y fuera del Ejército, como la brillante trayectoria que trazaron las revistas por él dirigidas.

El volumen recoge el segundo de los dos trabajos indicados en el título de la tesis Edición y estudio de la Vigilia y octavario de San Juan Baptista de doña Ana Francisca Abarca de Bolea, que María de los Ángeles Campo leyó en la Universidad de Zaragoza el 21 de septiembre de 1990. En él, la autora investiga en profundidad esta obra de la que fuera abadesa del monasterio de Casbas, tanto desde el punto de vista literario y estilístico como desde el sociológico, comprobando la presencia de varios de los géneros y registros temáticos y formales que constituyeron el complejo universitario literario del Siglo de Oro. Aporta además algunos datos sobre la propia figura de la monja cisterciense, que, por sus características personales y por sus circunstancias familiares, religiosas y culturales, ofrece aspectos interesantes y representativos de la situación sociocultural que se vivió en España y en Aragón durante el siglo XVII.
