É com imenso prazer que, em nome do Grupo de Trabalho de História das Religiões e Religiosidades – Núcleo RS (GTHRR/RS), apresentamos o volume VI, intitulado Campo religioso sul-riograndense, da Coletânea História das Religiões e Religiosidades no Rio Grande do Sul, organizado por Eliane Cristina Deckmann Fleck (UNISINOS) e Gizele Zanotto (UPF). Desde sua criação, a proposta da Coletânea foi reunir e socializar trabalhos que tratem do rico campo das crenças no Rio Grande do Sul. Para tanto, o GTHRR/RS já publicou cinco edições, sendo uma de temas múltiplos e quatro delas temáticas (espiritismo e religiões mediúnica,; religiosidade indígena, matriz afro-brasileira e religiões protestantes). Neste volume a perspectiva de valorização da diversidade das formas de crer retorna à pauta. Considerando a importância de tratar o tema das religiões e das religiosidades sob o prisma de campo de Pierrre Bourdieu, considerando portanto suas inflexões, fluidez, porosidade e interação com outros campos, assim como subcampos do espectro religioso, trazemos à lume pesquisas que evidenciam a complexidade deste espaço de disputa pelos bens simbólicos a partir de um panorama da produção de membros do Grupo de Trabalho.

This book aims to reflect on how to translate “queer” in the context of Latin America. Queer theory is becoming consolidated on an international scale as an effort to understand dissident bodies and their inventions. But how can we utilize such a rich body of literature and proposals without merely applying in the Global South what has been formulated in the Global North? Through meetings between dissident bodies in the Global South, the book suggests that the theoretical-poetic inventions formulated in this part of the world cannot be forgotten and proposes a discussion on how to approach queer theory from a decolonial point of view. There is still only a scant body of literature that systematizes and approaches these questions from a Latin American point of view; or, to use the term that gives this book its name, the “tropics.” The book points out the necessity of staying aware of the connections between western modernity and colonial practices. The book therefore invites us to pass through borders, to question limits, and to allow ourselves to be affected by Others, a fundamental exercise in the context of social inequality as drastic as that in which the majority of the population live in Latin America and in the Global South in general. Theories, like bodies, travel; in being translated, they transform themselves. The movements and the bending of bodies and theories are disturbing and subversive. Queer in the Tropics arises from these translations, from this bending, and from these subversions.

A discriminação, o preconceito e o combate às religiões de matriz africana ocorrem no país desde sua colonização. Essas religiões sofreram acusações de feitiçaria, culto ao demônio, bruxaria, sacrifício de animais, devassidão e loucura, foram objeto de repressão e perseguição, tiveram suas casas fechadas e muitos de seus líderes e seguidores foram presos. Apesar da atual garantia constitucional de liberdade religiosa e inviolabilidade de culto, as religiões de matriz africana continuam sofrendo ataques, mas que não provêem, como no passado, de agentes da Igreja Católica e do Estado. Agora, seus principais algozes são os neopentecostais, que demonizam suas crenças e práticas religiosas, acusam-nas de feitiçaria e combatem a possessão de espíritos e o sacrifício ritual de animais. Paralelo a isso, em 2003, a partir da aprovação do Código de Proteção aos Animais, de autoria de um deputado estadual e pastor evangélico, o Rio Grande do Sul foi palco de intensa controvérsia, amplamente divulgada pela mídia, em torno do sacrifício de animais em rituais religiosos, envolvendo diversos atores e instituições sociais. Temendo que o objetivo do Código fosse coibir seus rituais, os africanistas realizaram uma série de mobilizações para preservá-los e assegurar sua liberdade religiosa. Nesse contexto, os defensores dos animais destacaram-se como seus principais oponentes, ao protestarem contra a alteração do Código e contra a prática do sacrifício de animais, acusando os religiosos afro-brasileiros de crueldade, maus tratos e de sacrificarem gatos e cachorros. Desde então, teve início uma reação mais concertada e incisiva por parte dos religiosos de matriz africana em relação às discriminações e ataques dos neopentecostais.
