A Journey to Paradise is about the authors experiences as he grew up in Uganda and later moved to the United Kingdom. It tells of the usual antagonismslike poverty, conflict, and mental illnessand it compares the infrastructure of Uganda with the United Kingdom. It talks of intrigue, competition, personal misunderstanding, determination and perseverance, self-discovery, travel, broken relationships, misunderstandings, yearnings, and sexual encounters. It is a journey from childhood to adulthood. This no-holds-barred book is partially about the authors life and experiences in different parts of the world, his struggle with mental illness, his attempt to rediscover himself as an individual, and his settling in two contradicting worlds: Africa and Europe. This semiautobiographical piece of writing tries to describe all aspects and conflicts of growing up and the perspective of an individual who has lived a rather intriguing life but still yearns for more, just like any other human being. A Journey to Paradise tackles all these issues in a no-holds-barred perspective. It highlights the positives and tries to find solutions for the issues that are negative in nature. The book is divided into three parts. It starts with the author as a young man and progresses as he is a mysterious teenager and young adult and later as an adult. In the end, the author presents advice about the development of the individual, with a few quotes meant for motivating both the writer and those who read the book. This can be a page-turner if you are passionate about self-development and fighting intrigue as expressed in writing. A Journey to Paradise is a book for you.

A Primate S Memoir written by Robert M. Sapolsky and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-11-01 with Nature categories.

In the tradition of Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey, Robert Sapolsky, a foremost science writer and recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant, tells the mesmerizing story of his twenty-one years in remote Kenya with a troop of savanna baboons. "I had never planned to become a savanna baboon when I grew up; instead, I had always assumed I would become a mountain gorilla,” writes Robert Sapolsky in this witty and riveting chronicle of a scientist’s coming-of-age in Africa. An exhilarating account of Sapolsky’s twenty-one-year study of a troop of rambunctious baboons in Kenya, A Primate’s Memoir interweaves serious scientific observations with wry commentary about the challenges and pleasures of living in the wilds of the Serengeti—for man and beast alike. Over two decades, Sapolsky survives culinary atrocities, gunpoint encounters, and a surreal kidnapping, while witnessing the encroachment of the tourist mentality on Africa. As he conducts unprecedented physiological research on wild primates, he becomes enamored of his subjects—unique and compelling characters in their own right—and he returns to them summer after summer, until tragedy finally prevents him. By turns hilarious and poignant, A Primate’s Memoir is a magnum opus from one of our foremost science writers.

Revolution is a collection of eleven short stories that act as a vital bridge between the novels Exile and Liberty. But it is also so much more than that. Ejersbo had a remarkable and unaffected talent for getting inside the heads of his characters: Moses, a worker in a Tanzanite mine who lives in hope of striking it rich; Sofie, a Greenlander who joins a French conman on his trip around the world; Rachel, who tries to make a life for herself in a city where everyone sees her as a whore in waiting. You feel that Ejerbso could have written from the heart of every person living in Tanzania; and that you could go on reading them forever.

"What’s the matter? A mine? Some kid step on a mine? A blessure?" "No. Not a mine." We walk in and there’s a mother standing by her child. It’s a little girl. She’s a very beautiful girl with straight black hair, maybe six or eight, big eyes, a bit younger than Smiles and just as lovely. But she’s lying too still under a white sheet on the bamboo bed and her mother is talking in a monotone, staring off to the corner asking for help from Buddha. The little girl is staring at me, tracking every move I make. She’s so weak, all she can do is move her eyes. Sok Samuth approaches the bed and takes down the sheets. It’s very sad what we see. The girl is inhumanly thin and her skin is peeling off. He pulls the sheet up over the girl’s body again and the mother keeps up her monotone plea for Buddha while the little girl follows me, eye to eye. She wants me to make her feel better. I’m thinking, no, not this one. The whole thing was about this one. It was always about this one. "What is it?" he asks me. "I don’t know. Is there a fever?" "No, pas de fièvre." She is cool to the tough and there isn’t any shivering, no chills. ...All my ream could tell me was that she’d been sick for a few weeks and that her appetite was poor for a week and that she became worse ... I checked the two pediatric textbooks we had at the Blue House. Nothing. It could be kwashiorhor—protein malnutrition—all by itself, but we weren’t hearing about that out in the countryside. It was still lush and the harvests had been so good. Why would she be starving now? So maybe it is cancer. I think, What would Professor Jim Anderson do? How would my great mentor go after the diagnosis?
