Our ancient sages (Rishis) have introduced such a fine method in Horashastra that can help us find out the benignity and malignity of planets and their influence on the life of mankind. They produced a system that can be helpful in finding out the lines and points. The system is called Ashtakavarga. By this system it is easy to find the good and evil effects of the deeds of a man. Even a learned and well-educated astrologer cannot attain the desired success without the knowledge of Ashtakavarga. It is not possible to find out the benefic and malefic results caused due to the merits and demerits of the horoscope of a person without the knowledge of Ashtakavarg. The author of this book had started studying the system some twenty years back and came to the conclusion that there is no system better than this that could make an accurate prediction. By Ashtakavarga, all the malefic and benefic outcome of the deeds of a man can be found out scientifially. With the help of this system a minute prediction can be cast. A fine theory of the relation between individual and society is applicable on this system. There can be some differences on the results predicted by Vimshothari and transit on the basis of planets and houses, on signs and ascendants. In these circumstances, how can a true prediction be made? That is why, the ancient astrologers have advised to use the Ashtakavarga system. It is very hard to find out the effects, time and nature of a planet by the common theories of Falit, but by this system, this is possible. For instance, a planet will enhance the influence related to its own house if it is conjoined with or aspected by benefic planets while situated in own, exalted or friendly sign. This is a widely accepted theory. But the question is what enhancement will take place in the sphere of the said aspect by that particular planet i.e. what will be the ratio of the benefic and malefic results? It is in this regard that the Ashtakavarga system is considered to be very authentic and decisive. With its help, prediction regarding the ratio of gains, auspicious directions, gains from brothers, results of planets in transit etc. and the age, wealth, education, wisdom, relation between husband and wife, happiness, property, land, vehicle and deeds of a man can be made easily.

The other methods Shadbala (Parashari), Panchavargiya bala (Tajik), or Grahabala (Jaimini), have their own specific value, but they all seem to miss a very important point. And that is, that a planet does not operate in a vacuum, the other six planets are always somewherearound. Therefore, a planet will do a job only in as much measure as the other planets would allow it to do. The other planets either support its assignment or oppose it. In a nutshell, the native, at all times, experiences the combined results of all the planets. It is only a manner of speech amongst astrologers that a particular planet is causing trouble or otherwise because talking of all the seven planets in the same breath is difficult. It is for this reason that the Ashtakavarga system, when we say that Jupiter is powerful because it has 7 Bhinnashtaka bindus, or 42 Sarvashtaka bindus in a sign, what we mean is, that all the planets have gathered together to invest into Jupiter this power. In no other branch of astrology this truly democratic approach is visible so clearly. If there is any sanctity or rationale of Ashtakavarga in the birth chart, it ought to be explored in other charts too, since in all the charts, it is always the interplay of planets with each other that causes events. Whether the results of this exploration are acceptable to the astrologers, by and large, will depend on successful predictions made by the explorers using Ashtakavarga techniques. If and when a sufficient statistical proof is available, then these techniques may be inducted into astrological dicta of the present times. Ashtakavarga seems to be progressively getting out of bounds for those orthodox astrologers who, before they accept an astrological idea, keep propping up the refrain, "Where is it written in the classics?"

Prediction through Dasha System is the chief objective of Predictive Astrology. Maharshi Parashar has mentioned 43 types of Dashas in his "Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra". Here in this book the Vimshottari Dasha has been mentioned elaborately in particular, which is used extensively. Besides, the Ashtottari and Yogini Dashas have also been narrated briefly. Vimshottari Dasha system is based on constellation. This system is used throughout India and recognized by all. It is based on the lordship of planet. The native can have result according to the house of which the planet is the lord. So, it is essential to know the Karakatva of the house and the merit of the lord of it. The book has been composed keeping in view the problems of the students of All India Federation of Astrologers' Societies on the inspiration of Mr. Arun Kumar Bansal. This book explains the method of prediction on the basis of Dasha in any easy to understand manner. A learned astrologer has to make study of the three different parts of a horoscope - 1. Yoga, the combination of planets and Lords, 2. Period-sub-period i.e. dasha, 3. Gochar that is, transit. All the three parts are the supplements of each other. Yoga is most important among all the three parts. Period-sub-period i.e. dasha may prove to be futile if there is no Yoga in a horoscope. For example, Period-sub-period that of Lord of fifth house or of Karaka planet cannot bless a native with a child if there is no Santan Yoga in his horoscope. Likewise, Gochar too cannot do anything if there is no Yoga in a horoscope. So, all the three parts are essential to have the result.
