Although there are several annotated bibliographies of contemporary Spanish novelists, this book covers critical works published on the post civil war Spanish novel as a literary form. In the last decades, there has been an explosion of critical works on the post civil war Spanish novel. This proliferation of material causes serious problems for scholars conducting research on the subject. While there are bibliographies of particular novelists, this book deals with general studies of trends, topics, and comparative approaches. The volume primarily cites works published in English or Spanish, but it also includes some in Catalan, French, Galician, and Italian. The volume is divided into two sections—books and articles. Within each section, entries are arranged alphabetically. Each citation is accompanied by a descriptive and evaluative annotation. Esta obra se propone «encontrar un procedimiento de investigación literaria a tono con una crítica integradora, pluralista, comprensiva y buscadora de sentidos para aplicarlo a una novela que por su lenguaje, actitud y configuración simbólica exige un tratamiento muy particular»: El Jarama, del Premio Cervantes de Literatura Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio, digno representante de la generación del medio siglo o los niños de la guerra. En tal sentido, el autor nos ofrece una visión panorámica del desarrollo de la literatura española en el contexto de la dictadura franquista destacando la actividad de los jóvenes novelistas de la generación del medio siglo. Asimismo, partiendo del método sistémico integral propuesto por Bórev y tras la argumentación de la necesidad de un acercamiento semiohermenéutico para acometer el análisis del discurso narrativo literario, presenta una lectura o reescritura de la novela objeto de estudio que, de seguro, ofrecerá al lector una nueva experiencia enriquecedora del goce estético en su contacto con la novela a través de la siguiente propuesta: El Jarama, más que la referencia a un río de España, constituye una alusión metafórica (simbólica) a la historia de este país. En consecuencia, ese «río» que se alude deviene en prosopopeya del franquismo como período histórico concreto que cambia los destinos de la nación. Para demostrar esta hipótesis de trabajo, el autor avanza tras las huellas de varias isotopías o direcciones de lectura que concurren en el texto a través de la decodificación del sentido supuestamente oculto. Esta labor ha sido posible procediendo regresivamente (desde el texto al enunciado) y a través de la adopción de la óptica vertical que enlaza la superficie del texto con las «estructuras profundas»; y estableciendo las relaciones entre el texto y su contexto, entre lo sintagmático y lo paradigmático. El resultado es la propuesta de una interpretación que garantiza la eficacia del análisis textual del discurso narrativo literario de gran extensión.
