The lesser known and explored of the two pillars of Hinduism--=aśrama and var.na--=aśrama is the name given to a system of four distinct and legitimate ways of leading a religious life: as a celibate student, a married householder, a forest hermit, and a world renouncer. In this, the first full-length study of the =aśrama system, Olivelle uncovers its origin and traces its subsequent history. He examines in depth its relationship to other institutional and doctrinal aspects of the Brahmanical world and its position within Brahmanical theology, and assesses its significance within the history of Indian religion. Throughout, he argues that the =aśrama system is primarily a theological construct and that the system and its history should be carefully distinguished from the socio-religious institutions comprehended by the system and from their respective histories.

Standar Pelayanan Minimum (SPM) menurut Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 2 Tahun 2018 merupakan ketentuan mengenai Jenis dan Mutu Pelayanan Dasar yang merupakan Urusan Pemerintahan Wajib yang berhak diperoleh setiap Warga Negara secara minimal. Pelayanan dasar dimaksud adalah pelayanan publik untuk memenuhi kebutuhan dasar warga negara. Tujuan pokok penelitian ini adalah dapat memberikan masukan pada pemerintah pentingnya meningkatkan pelayanan rehabilitasi sosial berdasarkan SPM. Pendekatan yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah metode campuran (kuantitatif dan kualitatif), dengan lokasi penelitian di delapan panti propinsi. Panti anak terlantar, panti lanjut usia terlantar, panti disabilitas terlantar dan panti gelandangan pengemis. Rekomendasi dari hasil penelitian ini, mengarah pada pentingnya mengoptimalkan pelayanan dasar di panti-panti sosial milik pemerintah daerah propinsi, baik dari sisi komunikasi informasi, sumber daya manusia serta sarana prasarana, disposisi sikap petugas panti serta struktur birokrasi. Selain itu dari sisi pemerintah perlu memperhatikan kelembagaan, perencanaan, anggaran, sumber daya manusia, dan pembinaan pengawasan. Diharapkan hasil penelitian ini memberikan manfaat sebagai bahan rujukan bagi pengambil kebijakan bidang rehabilitasi sosial di Kementerian Sosial terkait Standar Pelayanan Minimal pelayanan dasar rehabilitasi sosial.
