Storico - racconto lungo (29 pagine) - La celebre “Disfida di Barletta”, tra scontri cavallereschi e un omicidio, consumato in una taverna alla vigilia dello scontro, proprio dove le parti in lotta si erano riunite per un convivio. La sera della vigilia della celebre “Disfida di Barletta”, Consalvo da Cordoba, podestà spagnolo e giudice, organizza un convivio tra i tredici cavalieri francesi e italiani. Nella piccola taverna volano insulti e contumelie, che saranno lavate col sangue durante il nobile duello fissato per il giorno successivo. Nel mezzo della cena, però, un cavaliere italiano, Riccio da Parma verrà ucciso da mano ignota, e Consalvo si occuperà delle indagini. Gli ingredienti di questo racconto sono vari e molteplici: sferragliare di spade e asce, lunghe lance da giostra medievale, grani di un rosario esotico, foglie e semi velenosi; e poi ancora: un amore intrigante e nascosto, coppe di vino adulterato, insulti e minacce da lavare col sangue, cavalli scatenati, armature e vestiti da guerra e da parata, un giudice severo e podestà intransigente della Corona di Spagna, la campagna pugliese sotto la brina di febbraio, medici fisici, inquisitori, quattro campioni della cavalleria medievale e infine, un omicidio eccellente. Salvo Figura, medico anestesista siciliano, classe 1951, ha iniziato a scrivere nei ritagli di tempo che la professione ospedaliera gli consentiva. Nel 2005 ha pubblicato per la Biblioteca di Babele Eravamo Corinzi: storia romanzata della fondazione di Akray. Il colpo di fulmine arriva però dopo un corso di scrittura tenuto da Franco Forte, e così dopo pochi mesi nascono due gialli: Asparago siculo (Giallo24) e La neve di Piazza del Campo (in coda a Oscuri presagi, Giallo Mondadori). Di scritto in scritto, attraverso le collane della serie “365 racconti” si arriva agli History Crime di cui Salvo è “l’apripista” con La terra, il cielo e il costato e il sequel La pulce e il cappio. Le ambientazioni siciliane, i colori, i paesaggi e i profumi, si sentono tutti nei suoi scritti, ma anche quelli senesi; a Siena infatti Salvo si è laureato. Finalista e premiato in alcuni concorsi letterari e finalista al Premio Alberto Tedeschi col romanzo Profumo di Panforte e mandorle pizzute. L’ultimo suo ebook crime Delitto in cattedrale è stato pubblicato, sempre da Delos, alla fine del 2022.
