Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Other, grade: 1,0, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (Fakultät I), course: Seminar: Text and Discourse: Critical Discourse Analysis, language: English, abstract: During the seminar “Critical Discourse Analysis: Text and Discourse” there were various fields of application mentioned. Bureaucracy was a very interesting one, as it is nearly an everyday necessity, especially living in Germany. The use of bureaucratic language does not only occur in institutional contexts, but “may enter and take over the discourse practices of other domains”*, e.g. the correspondence in business companies. Since all citizens can tell their own story of a bureaucratic incident and therefore can relate to such problems, the movie-scene analyzed is a well remembered one. The thesis in hand will first give an overview about the material and present a summary of the noted movie-scene to afford a basis for the following analysis. That will concern the information exchange with clients and inside the institution, as well as the role behaviour in bureaucratic discourse. At last, it closes with some final words and the credits. *See Sarangi / Slembrouck (1996), p. 34.

Wonder Woman. Asterix the Gaul. Watchmen. These popular comics, and many others, use classical sources, narrative patterns, and references to enrich their imaginative worlds and deepen the stories they present. This volume explores that rich interaction. Son of Classics and Comics presents thirteen original studies of representations of the ancient world in the medium of comics. Building on the foundation established by their groundbreaking Classics and Comics (2011), George Kovacs and C. W. Marshall have gathered a wide range of essays with a new, global perspective. Chapters are helpfully grouped to facilitate classroom use, with sections on receptions of Homer, on manga, on Asterix, and on the sense of a classic in the modern world. All Greek and Latin passages are translated. Lavishly illustrated, the volume significantly widens the range of available studies on the reception of the Greek and Roman worlds in comics, and deepens our understanding of comics as a literary medium. Son of Classics and Comics will appeal to students and scholars of classical reception as well as comics fans.

Unfortunately, the programs in this book won't get the reader in trouble with the law (or rather, fortunately) but it is a guide on the basics of both cryptography and the Python programming language. Instead of presenting a dull laundry list of concepts, this book provides the source code to several fun programming projects for adults and young adults.

This volume explores film and television for children and youth. While children’s film and television vary in form and content from country to country, their youth audience, ranging from infants to “screenagers”, is the defining feature of the genre and is written into the DNA of the medium itself. This collection offers a contemporary analysis of film and television designed for this important audience, with particular attention to new directions evident in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. With examples drawn from Iran, China, Korea, India, Israel, Eastern Europe, the Philippines, and France, as well as from the United States and the United Kingdom, contributors address a variety of issues ranging from content to production, distribution, marketing, and the use of film, both as object and medium, in education. Through a diverse consideration of media for young infants up to young adults, this volume reveals the newest trends in children’s film and television and its role as both a source of entertainment and pedagogy.

Comics In French written by Laurence Grove and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Literary Criticism categories.

Whereas in English-speaking countries comics are for children or adults 'who should know better', in France and Belgium the form is recognized as the 'Ninth Art' and follows in the path of poetry, architecture, painting and cinema. The bande dessinée [comic strip] has its own national institutions, regularly obtains front-page coverage and has received the accolades of statesmen from De Gaulle onwards. On the way to providing a comprehensive introduction to the most francophone of cultural phenomena, this book considers national specificity as relevant to an anglophone reader, whilst exploring related issues such as text/image expression, historical precedents and sociological implication. To do so it presents and analyses priceless manuscripts, a Franco- American rodent, Nazi propaganda, a museum-piece urinal, intellectual gay porn and a prehistoric warrior who's really Zinedine Zidane. Laurence Grove is Senior Lecturer and Head of French at the University of Glasgow. His previous affiliations include the University of Pittsburgh, the Newberry Library (Chicago), Middlebury College (Vermont) and the Université Rennes 2. He works on text/image phenomena from the sixteenth century to the present day and has authored a number of works on the subject. Laurence Grove is President of the IBDS, an international society for the study of the bande dessinée.

Self And Nation written by Stephen Reicher and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-01-26 with Psychology categories.

Self and Nation is a lively and accessible exploration of the issues related to nationhood, nationalism and national identity. The authors challenge common assumptions of what ‘national identity’ means by addressing key concepts of identity, national character, national history and nationalist psychology. How do constructions of national identity affect the way people act, are mobilized, transform societies, create nations and reshape nations where they already exist? This book shows how the central notion of national identity is used by politicians and activists in support of attempts to create different types of nations. Self and Nation will be essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as researchers in social psychology, politics, sociology and social anthropology.
