Se describen el Programa de Salud Escolar y el de Lucha contra la enfermedad de Chagas, llevados a cabo por la Fundacion Renault (con el apoyo economico de Renault Argentina SA) en convenio firmado con el Gobierno de la provincia de Cordoba, por el que se conto con la colaboracion da agentes y autoridades sanitarias de esa provincia. Se desarrollaron en las regiones Oeste y Nordeste de la misma -donde se designaron tres localidades como "ciudades cabecera"-, durante el periodo 1983-1988, unificandose a partir de 1985. Hasta ese ano, en Los Cerrillos (Cordoba) se hizo un Programa Piloto Integral complementario a los citados. El Programa de Salud Escolar, cuyo objetivo fuera la atencion primaria de salud de ninos concurrentes a escuelas rurales apartadas y sus grupos familiares, atendio un total de 48.199 pacientes, de los cuales 612 se mostraron infectados -disminuyendo la prevalencia en menores, observandose un 31,7% en adultos), y mas de la mitad de estos tenian cardiopatias; mientras que se detectaron 100 patologias no relacionadas con la enfermedad de Chagas. El Programa de lucha contra la Enfermedad de Chagas se propuso la investigacion serologica, electrocardiografica y clinica de la poblacion residente en la region (restringiendola a escolares y grupos familiares de alumnos infectados); el tratamiento y seguimiento de pacientes infectados; el mejoramiento sanitario y desinsectacion de viviendas; y profilaxis; atendiendose 23.877 pacientes, registrandose un total de 7480 consultas de tratamiento y control. Los Cerrillos registro una prevalencia del 32,2% (335 casos sobre 1040 pacientes (AU).
