Längst hat die religiöse Vielfalt auch die Kindertageseinrichtungen in Deutschland erreicht. Aber wie steht es um interreligiöse Bildung in solchen Einrichtungen? Dieser Frage war erstmals eine Repräsentativuntersuchung gewidmet, deren Ergebnisse in diesem Band berichtet werden. Wichtige Befunde betreffen schon die Voraussetzungen interreligiöser Bildung: Welche Religionszugehörigkeiten haben die Kinder in den Einrichtungen? Im Zentrum stehen die Wahrnehmungen der Erzieherinnen, die hier von der Praxis in ihren Einrichtungen sowie von den darauf bezogenen Herausforderungen berichten. Insgesamt zeigt sich, vor allem angesichts der hohen Zahl muslimischer Kinder, ein erheblicher Nachholbedarf bei interreligiöser Bildung. Daran haben offenbar auch die neuen Orientierungs- und Bildungspläne nur wenig geändert, zumal es bislang an empirisch fundierten Ergebnissen für diesen Bereich weithin fehlt. Dargestellt werden hier Analysen zur Praxis in Kitas sowie zur Ausbildung für den Elementarbereich. Im Zentrum steht eine an Fachschulen für Sozialpädagogik durchgeführte Interventionsstudie zur Förderung interreligiöser Kompetenz. Dafür wurde eine spezielle Unterrichtseinheit entwickelt; auf der Grundlage der Untersuchungsergebnisse wird gezeigt, wie die Unterstützung interreligiöser Kompetenz im BRU gestärkt werden kann. Auf diese Weise wird nachgewiesen, dass die Förderung interreligiöser Kompetenz von Fachkräften für den Elementarbereich tatsächlich gelingen kann und was speziell der BRU dazu beizutragen vermag.

Interreligious education reveals that the creeds and holy books of the world’s religions teach about sp- itual systems that reject violence and the individualistic pursuit of economic and political gain, and call their followers to compassion for every human being. It also seeks to lead students to an awareness that the followers of religions across the world need to be, and to grow in, dialogical relationships of respect and understa- ing.
