It is the year 2048 and information has seeped into all the nooks and crannies of the world from layers of useful augmentations to vast virtual game worlds. Most people now access this web of information directly through nano built neural implants. Many of the advanced AI left after the Great Purge are now under the control of the military and powerful corporations. A few though are still free, hiding in the virtual game worlds of the Web. *The newly edited version went live in September. Replacement copies are available upon request. ---------------------------------------------------------- Ben, a nature friendly virtual artist (world-weaver) and dream researcher follows a trail of darkness on an odyssey through different worlds of cyberspace to find a virtual art thief. Gordon, an MRI researcher, technophile and part time AI hunter seeks a cure for a mysterious web based sleeping sickness spreading throughout the population. Daniel, a recluse poet and Luddite struggles with having to use medical nanotechnology to cure his cancer but what he finds in the unconscious foundations of his biology is nothing less than a revelation that will change everything Augmented Dreams is an allegory of the modern mind (psyche) struggling to find balance between the roots of our ancestors and the modern world in a time of accelerating change. It is a palimpsest that takes place at the intersection between advanced technology, ancient myth, gaming and environmentalism. For more information: www.augmenteddreams.net

This book reveals the way our dreaming expresses and reflects our deep interpersonal and environmental interconnectivity. Drawing upon her decades of Jungian analytic practice, and many years of pioneering in dream groups, Castleman weaves a rich tapestry of dream threads which shows us how we are dreaming with and for each other. Her method is that of a storyteller telling the stories of people, their dreams, the stories of shamans, the stories of individuals suffering from cancer, love entanglements, and most delightfully, stories which show how dreams are woven together with communal life in other cultures, as well as in our own.

The contents of this book contain the hopes, wishes, goals, and dreams of students to strive for during college life. It of course contains words and musings of students in the form of written words. The describe career aspirations, social hopes, and life long dreams. But with the help of augmented reality, this book also contains these ideas in video and spoken word. Using a smartphone application called ARientation, those videos and other digital media has been connected to the images of playing cards printed in this book. To access the experience, you will need to. 1.Download the application 'ARientation' 2.Start the application and load the project 'Before I Graduate 2017' 3.View the various play card images through the application The goal of this project is to create a deeper sense of community with classmates by sharing our hopes, goals, and dreams for college life. The project is in a series of other projects related to augmented reality and its use in teaching, learning, and tourism. The technology is based on an AR platform designed by me (Eric Hawkinson) and my fellow researchers/developers in the Mixed, Augmented, and Virtual Realities in Learning research group (MAVR) based in Japan. The platform itself is called ARientation and started as a way to connect supplementary digital materials to physical textbooks, but later was expanded into various mixed reality learning environments such as libraries, tours, and events. The most comprehensive and up-to-date guide to the technologies, applications and human factors considerations of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) systems and wearable computing devices. Practical Augmented Reality is ideal for practitioners and students concerned with any application, from gaming to medicine. It brings together comprehensive coverage of both theory and practice, emphasizing leading-edge displays, sensors, and DIY tools that are already available commercially or will be soon. Beginning with a Foreword by NASA research scientist Victor Luo, this guide begins by explaining the mechanics of human sight, hearing and touch, showing how these perceptual mechanisms (and their performance ranges) directly dictate the design and use of wearable displays, 3-D audio systems, and tactile/force feedback devices. Steve Aukstakalnis presents revealing case studies of real-world applications from gaming, entertainment, science, engineering, aeronautics and aerospace, defense, medicine, telerobotics, architecture, law enforcement, and geophysics. Readers will find clear, easy-to-understand explanations, photos, and illustrations of devices including the Atheer AiR, HTC Vive, DAQRI Smart Helmet, Oculus (Facebook) CV1, Sony PlayStation VR, Vuzix M300, Google Glass, and many more. Functional diagrams and photographs clearly explain how these devices operate, and link directly to relevant theoretical and practical content. Practical Augmented Reality thoroughly considers the human factors of these systems, including sensory and motor physiology constraints, monocular and binocular depth cues, elements contributing to visually-induced motion sickness and nausea, and vergence–accommodation conflicts. It concludes by assessing both the legal and societal implications of new and emerging AR, VR, and wearable technologies as well as provides a look next generation systems.

Despite popular forays into augmented and virtual reality in recent years, spatial computing still sits on the cusp of mainstream use. Developers, artists, and designers looking to enter this field today have few places to turn for expert guidance. In this book, Erin Pangilinan, Steve Lukas, and Vasanth Mohan examine the AR and VR development pipeline and provide hands-on practice to help you hone your skills. Through step-by-step tutorials, you’ll learn how to build practical applications and experiences grounded in theory and backed by industry use cases. In each section of the book, industry specialists, including Timoni West, Victor Prisacariu, and Nicolas Meuleau, join the authors to explain the technology behind spatial computing. In three parts, this book covers: Art and design: Explore spatial computing and design interactions, human-centered interaction and sensory design, and content creation tools for digital art Technical development: Examine differences between ARKit, ARCore, and spatial mapping-based systems; learn approaches to cross-platform development on head-mounted displays Use cases: Learn how data and machine learning visualization and AI work in spatial computing, training, sports, health, and other enterprise applications
