Art history traditionally classifies works of art by country as well as period, but often political borders and cultural boundaries are highly complex and fluid. Kaum eine Universit�t hat so viele Umbrueche erlebt wie die 1702 von Kaiser Leopold I. im habsburgischen Schlesien gegruendete Universit�t Breslau. Sie gelangte 1741 unter preu�ische Landeshoheit, ihre deutsche Geschichte endete 1945. Die heutige polnische Universit�t Wroclaw hat sich in die Tradition dieser nunmehr dreihundertj�hrigen Geschichte gestellt und das Jubil�um von 2002 unter internationaler Beteiligung gefeiert. Der deutsche Beitrag dazu war die an mehreren Orten gezeigte Ausstellung �Die tolerierte Universit�t�. Das vorliegende Katalogbuch dokumentiert diese Ausstellung und bietet in zwei weiteren Teilen Quellen und wissenschaftliche Beitr�ge. Themenschwerpunkt ist die Geschichte der Universit�t Breslau bis zur Reform von 1811. Von ihrer Gruendung an hatte sich diese von Jesuiten gefuehrte Universit�t gegen die Vorurteile ihrer protestantischen, aber auch katholischen Umgebung zu behaupten, was durch die preu�ische Besitznahme Schlesiens noch versch�rft wurde. So pr�chtig das �u�ere Erscheinungsbild der �Leopoldina� auch war, diese Universit�t wurde mehr toleriert als gef�rdert. Das Katalogbuch informiert ueber einen wenig bekannten Abschnitt der Breslauer Universit�tsgeschichte und bietet zugleich einen Beitrag zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte des 18. Jahrhunderts. .

Ernst Lohmeyer (1890–1946) zählte um die Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts zu den bedeutendsten Neutestamentlern in Deutschland. Dabei hebt er sich vor allem durch eine klare Positionierung gegen den Nationalsozialismus von der Mehrzahl seiner Fachkollegen ab. 1935 von Breslau nach Greifswald strafversetzt und 1945 als rector magnificus designatus mit dem Wiederaufbau der Universität betraut, wird er 1946 zum Opfer der neuen politischen Verhältnisse. Erst 1996 gelingt es, die Umstände seines gewaltsamen Todes aufzuklären. Das sorgfältig gearbeitete Buch zu einem eindrücklichen Leben versammelt die Beiträge eines Greifswalder Symposiums, das im Oktober 2016 zur Erinnerung an Ernst Lohmeyers 70. Todestag stattfand. Diese Beiträge werden erweitert um eine Reihe von bislang noch unveröffentlichten biographischen Materialien zu Leben und Werk. Die exegetischen Arbeiten Lohmeyers, die zu ihrer Zeit durch Originalität und Weitsicht bestachen, treten heute wieder verstärkt in den Blick. Die Theologie verdankt Ernst Lohmeyer ein Beispiel von Charakterfestigkeit sowie unabhängigem, kritischem Denken in schwieriger Zeit. Mit Beiträgen von Heinrich Assel, James R. He distinguishes himself from most of his colleagues above all through his clear positioning against Nation Socialism. Transferred to Breslau in 1935 for disciplinary reasons, in 1945 as rector magnificus designatus entrusted with the reconstruction of the University, he fell victim in 1946 to the new political conditions. Only years later, in 1996, the circumstances of his death could be clarified. This book about an impressive life contains the contributions of a Greifwald symposium which was held in October 2016 in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Ernst Lohmeyer's death. The contributions are supplemented by further biographical material, unpublished until now.
