Neil, a college sophomore, decides to stay in town for the summer and get a job. He needs a room, and the ad sounds innocent enough, "Widow with large house near campus seeks student boarder. Sex, race, unimportant." Neil discovers that Eva is no ordinary landlady. He soon realizes he might not be as mature as he'd thought after the first time she spanks him bare-bottom over her knee. When Eva starts putting him in diapers, he learns he's a lot more than just Auntie Eva's boarder.

Ingrid Laguna never did things the easy way - she spent much of her young adulthood rebelling against conformism, playing in a mostly girl band and travelling around Australia, before marrying Ben and going to live in Alice Springs. Pregnancy didn't come easily either but, through IVF, she finally fell pregnant. And when she went into premature labour at 23 weeks and her twin sons were born-each weighing about the same as a pat of butter and small enough to fit into the palm of her hand - she had to call on all her reserves of strength and stubbornness to see the journey through and be the mother that her sons needed. This is an earthy, honest and heartbreaking memoir about what it means to love; and about the terrible powerlessness and torment involved when there is fear of losing a child. Yet despite the pain and anguish, Ingrid's memoir is at its heart about how we can experience unimaginable difficulty - and still somehow find the spirit to come through blazing with love and optimism and even a kind of joy.

Eva and Otto is a true story about German opposition and resistance to Hitler as revealed through the early lives of Eva Lewinski Pfister (1910–1991) and Otto Pfister (1900–1985). It is an intimate and epic account of two Germans—Eva born Jewish, Otto born Catholic—who worked with a little-known German political group that resisted and fought against Hitler in Germany before 1933 and then in exile in Paris before the German invasion of France in May 1940. After their improbable escapes from separate internment and imprisonment in Europe, Eva obtained refuge in America in October 1940 where she worked to rescue other endangered political refugees, including Otto, with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt. As revealed in recently declassified records, Eva and Otto later engaged in different secret assignments with the US Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in support of the Allied war effort. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, Eva and Otto gave each other hope and strength as they acted upon what they understood to be an ethical duty to help others threatened by fascism. The book provides a sobering insight into the personal risks and costs of a commitment to that duty. Their unusually beautiful writing—directed to each other in diaries and correspondence during two long periods of wartime separation—also reveals an unlikely and inspiring love story.

Dressmakers Preachers And Cockies written by Jeremy Ward and has been published by Boolarong Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In 2014, Jeremy Ward found himself the sole survivor of his immediate family. Intrigued by why he had not embraced the Christian faith of his parents as had his two sisters, and left with family records cluttering his study, Jeremy decided to write the story of his parents and their forebears. Dressmakers, Preachers and Cockies is the result. In part a response to his desire to record his family history, in part a search for meaning in his own life, Dressmakers, Preachers and Cockies tells of his mother’s family of McCulloch’s from County Westmeath in Ireland, his father’s family of Wards and Robjohns from south-west England, and his Italian great-grandmother from Gibraltar. Jeremy delves into this history, identifying themes of religious faith, commitment to family, and the importance of education and community service, as he searches for influences in his own life. He writes of dissenting Congregationalists, farming in the NSW Riverina, a family firm of dressmakers in Sydney, his mother as young Rector’s wife, his father as World War 2 RAAF chaplain, and a family connection with Joseph Conrad. Finally, Jeremy describes his experiences as a child of the rectory, attending boarding school and conscription into the Army, before becoming a legal aid lawyer and disability advocate.

Not Fade Away By Dawn R Young My time in the 60's with Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and the heartbreak of forced Adoption “Not Fade Away" is the fascinating, at times heart wrenching, true life story of a young English girl which encompasses life with The Rolling Stones in Britain's early 60's and the best and worst of that cultural era. This is a gripping ‘must read' for fans of The Rolling Stones and all things British. It takes readers on a journey into the early beginnings of the Stones and also explains how forced adoption was all too common in that era. The author is a survivor who overcame abuse and losses to experience eventual love and joy. Dawn was one of only a handful of people who would go to watch The Rolling Stones play in the early 1960’s. Now, nearly 50 years down the line, their music can heard playing somewhere in the world every minute of every day. Dawn Molloy appears from time to time in books and newspaper articles as she was a girlfriend of Brian Jones who was the founder of the greatest rock and roll band in the world. He was the father of her son, Paul Andrew. Like so many other teenagers in the 60’s, Dawn was made to suffer because of a system that did not allow them a say in the fate of their children. In one way or another, that system and the mind set that went with it, failed them. It ensured that pregnant girls without a wedding band on their finger were stringently and illegally advised to place their children up for adoption. Dawn experienced rejection from a mother who lacked maternal instinct and her childhood was riddled with fear and doubt, abuse and ridicule. This English lady has met Royalty and had tea with the Queen of England. Dawn experienced the elation of her lost son finding her and the myriad emotions that came along with that and endured heart wrenching grief with the death of one of her children. She relocated from England to the USA with her husband and has had the joy and satisfaction of raising 4 children and seeing them grown and independent.
