Das Führen eines als normal zu bezeichnenden Lebens ist für autistische Kinder und Erwachsene aufgrund ihrer Isolation und Einschränkungen eigentlich undenkbar. Autismus gilt als unheilbar, jedoch zeigen einige Therapieformen erfolgreiche Ergebnisse. Den Betroffenen und ihren Angehörigen kann sehr geholfen werden - wenn die Therapie frühzeitig beginnt und langfristig angelegt ist. Wie sieht es also zurzeit in Deutschland aus mit der Früherkennung und Frühförderung von autistischen Kindern? In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zunächst die verschiedenen autistischen Störungen mit ihren Ursachen, Diagnosekriterien und Merkmalen vorgestellt. Dabei liegt ein besonderer Fokus auf dem frühkindlichen Autismus. Die diagnostischen Instrumente bei autistischen Erkrankungen und auch hier speziell die Frühdiagnostik werden ebenfalls thematisiert. Außerdem wird auf die unterschiedlichen Therapieformen eingegangen, wobei zwei besonders etablierte Methoden, "ABA" und "TEACCH", genauer dargestellt werden. Einem autistischen Kind frühzeitig die richtige Therapie und damit die Teilnahme an einem sozialen Leben zu ermöglichen, ist das Ziel der Maßnahmen zur Früherkennung und macht diese so wichtig.
