Il dévoile l’identité du colonisateur, ses antécédents, ses motivations profondes, les ressorts de sa démarche. Il situe le colonisé, remonte aux sources de sa faiblesse et annonce, par mille indices, sa prévisible défaite. Et, à dater de leur tragique face à face, où colonisateur et colonisé seront désormais aux prises, il éclaire les développements de leurs rapports, les progrès de l’incomparable expérience de leur affrontement qui connaîtra son épilogue dans la décolonisation. Ce livre n’est pas précisément une étude historique. Il ambitionne d’être davantage un essai de définition et un instrument d’analyse des phénomènes de colonisation, depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours. Les aperçus historiques, dans cette perspective, représentent l’illustration de la thèse proposée par l’auteur. Cette thèse se résume à un constat, « post-mortem », de la nature, des mécanismes, des orientations et des conséquences de la colonisation. C’est ce que l’on nomme une autopsie.
