L'ensemble des contribution- présentées dans ce volume est issu de deux journées d'études a la fois autour de Liliane Louvel et du concept de "tiers pictural", dont elle est a l'origine : il s'agit donc d'un hommage personnel, mais aussi, indissociablement, d'une reconnaissance d'ordre scientifique, celle d'une notion fondatrice et duo outil efficace. propre à stimuler encore la recherche. théorique et pratique. conçue comme une activité vivante, varié, toujours en renouvellement et en débat. Le "tiers pictural" éclaire en effet la manière dont se manifeste chez le lecteur l'image suggérée par un teste. en même temps qu'il se présente comme un phénomène que l'on peut appréhender en termes décemment et d'affect : il parait participer ainsi à cette vaste transition théorique contemporaine de la question de l'oeuvre d'art vers celle de l'événement d'art. qui. substituant la question "qu'est ce que l'art ?" à "quand y a-t-il art ?" (N. Goodman, Manières de faire des mondes, éd J. Chambon, 1992, p. 79.95), fait la part belle à la réception créative du spectateur et du lecteur.

The first graduate conference of the Young Scholars' Network of the Association for Canadian Studies in German-speaking countries took place in Berlin in 2004. The conference has been an integral part of the academic year in Canadian Studies ever since. It offers an opportunity for young scholars to present their B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. projects and receive feedback and helpful suggestions from peers and experts. This type of academic exchange is particularly important in Canadian Studies as they often occupy a marginal position at universities. Beside graduate students from Canada, Germany and Austria, prominent Canadian scholars have also been invited to speak at the conference every year. This volume contains selected contributions (in English, German and French) presented at the first five graduate conferences and demonstrates the large scope of Canadian studies in German-speaking countries. André Dombrowski illuminates Monet's celebration of instantaneity in the context of the late nineteenth-century time technologies that underwrote it. Monet's version of Impressionism demonstrated an acute awareness of the particularly modern pressures of time, but until now scholars have not examined the histories and technologies of time and timekeeping that informed Impressionism's major stylistic shifts. Arguing that the fascination with instantaneity rejected the dulling cultures of newly routinized and standardized time, Monet's Minutes traces the evolution of Monet's art to what were then seismic shifts in the shape of time itself. In each chapter, Dombrowski focuses on the connections between a set of Monet's works and a specific technology or experience of time, while providing the voices of period critics responding to Impressionism.
