World wide economic, political and cultural changes transform labor markets, frames of divisions of work, labor organization and famly structures. This can be demonstrated in a specific way in Western, Middle and Eastern Europe, where globalization and forced technology development from the one side cross with transformations processes in forms of government from the other side. Our investigation within this context emphasizes the question, how the living conditions of working women in comarison with those of men are touched by these social overturns. The findings presented in this volume throw light on the ambiguities which political transformation and economic globalization effect on women ́s work. Women profit by the emergence of working places that are brought force by new market-activities. But at the same time many of them lose qualifies occupations by shifting from full-time to part-time jobs, from high paid sectors to low remunerated industries. In all countries we find gender-based income differences. The proportion of women in political organizations is everywhere lower than that of men. The growing time pressure in the employment system reinforces women ́s strain to combine household duties, child raising and paid work. Going beyond Europe we have to recognize the widening gap between industrialized regions and developing countries.

Teaching As A Reflective Practice written by Ian Westbury and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-06 with Education categories.

This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate "translation." These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the "new" tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.

Media Matters written by John Fiske and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-05 with Social Science categories.

Now, more than 20 years since its initial release, John Fiske’s classic text Media Matters remains both timely and insightful as an empirically rich examination of how the fierce battle over cultural meaning is negotiated in American popular culture. Media Matters takes us to the heart of social inequality and the call for social justice by interrogating some of the most important issues of its time. Fiske offers a practical guide to learning how to interpret the ways that media events shape the social landscape, to contest official and taken-for-granted accounts of how events are presented/conveyed through media, and to affect social change by putting intellectual labor to public use. A new introductory essay by former Fiske student Black Hawk Hancock entitled ‘Learning How to Fiske: Theorizing Cultural Literacy, Counter-History, and the Politics of Media Events in the 21st Century’ explains the theoretical and methodological tools with which Fiske approaches cultural analysis, highlighting the lessons today’s students can continue to draw upon in order to understand society today.

Promoting Reading Motivation In Primary School written by Sarah Junge and has been published by GRIN Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-10 with Education categories.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Pedagogy - School Pedagogics, grade: 1,0, University of Koblenz-Landau, language: English, abstract: The ability to read is an important prerequisite for participating in social life. Without it, many areas of daily life are not accessible. It was precisely under this aspect that the results of the Pisa study presented to the public were all the more shocking. The findings regarding the reading motivation of pupils indicated that 42% of the participating German 15-year-olds never read for pleasure, including not only reading books but also newspapers and magazines. However, since my topic is "Promoting reading motivation in primary school", one might ask why findings from the PISA study are cited that do not show the performance of primary school students but that of 15-year-old school leavers. The reason is that these poor results are rooted in the beginning of the school years. If primary school teachers do not succeed in conveying "reading" as something enjoyable and enriching from the beginning, children will not see reading as something personally valuable either and may turn their backs on books already during their primary school years and migrate to other media such as computers or game consoles. The central question of the is which social factors have a promoting and inhibiting effect on children's motivation to read and to what extent primary school can contribute to creating a long-term love of reading among pupils. First, the family environment is discussed as an important influencing factor in the development of a person's reading motivation. The second important influencing factor will be school, whereby I will limit myself to primary school. Starting with motivation problems at the beginning of the initial lessons, through problems in the continuing reading lessons, to the motivation problem among boys. Gender-specific differences in reading behaviour will be explained and attempted explanations given. In addition, school-based solution perspectives are pointed out. The last chapter of this thesis deals with practical support possibilities, i.e. it shows methods that the primary school teacher can use in class to increase the reading motivation of his pupils.

Making Meaning written by David BORDWELL and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-30 with Philosophy categories.

David Bordwell's new book is at once a history of film criticism, an analysis of how critics interpret film, and a proposal for an alternative program for film studies. It is an anatomy of film criticism meant to reset the agenda for film scholarship. As such Making Meaning should be a landmark book, a focus for debate from which future film study will evolve. Bordwell systematically maps different strategies for interpreting films and making meaning, illustrating his points with a vast array of examples from Western film criticism. Following an introductory chapter that sets out the terms and scope of the argument, Bordwell goes on to show how critical institutions constrain and contain the very practices they promote, and how the interpretation of texts has become a central preoccupation of the humanities. He gives lucid accounts of the development of film criticism in France, Britain, and the United States since World War II; analyzes this development through two important types of criticism, thematic-explicatory and symptomatic; and shows that both types, usually seen as antithetical, in fact have much in common. These diverse and even warring schools of criticism share conventional, rhetorical, and problem-solving techniques--a point that has broad-ranging implications for the way critics practice their art. The book concludes with a survey of the alternatives to criticism based on interpretation and, finally, with the proposal that a historical poetics of cinema offers the most fruitful framework for film analysis.

Beyond Fragmentation Didactics Learning And Teaching In Europe written by Meinert Meyer and has been published by Verlag Barbara Budrich this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-30 with Education categories.

There is great diversity in teacher education systems and approaches to learning and teaching practice across Europe, even though the practical everyday problems of the various national education systems may be very similar. Against this background, in the field of research on didactics, learning and teaching it is important to overcome fragmentation and to find common ground. In this book the editors demonstrate how far we have come over recent years in advancing research in the field which has the ultimate aim of improving learning and teaching. The editors recognise the diverging national and local practices as a starting point in searching for common ground and in creating shared understandings. The book is organised in six parts with 26 chapters in which the authors examine whether there is a paradigmatic shift from teaching to learning, take a closer look at various teacher education models and their empirical basis, discuss the importance of subject didactics, curriculum work and lesson planning, and analyse the impact of Information and Communication Technologies on didactical design. Finally, they relate the empirical findings to theory construction and offer proposals to further advance this vital field by increasing levels of international co-operation.
