This communication lists bacteria, fungi, nematodes and viruses wich have been reported to be associated with the banana (Musa sapientum L.) in territories within the area of the South Pacific Commission. Most, but not all, of the banana pathogens listed by Stover (1972) have been reported somewhere within the region (a notable exception is the strain of Pseudomonas solanacearum which causes Moko disease) but not necessarily from all territories. The region is of particular interest because it was from fiji that first descriptions of Haplobasidion musae, Mycosphaerella fijiensis, Phyllachora musicola and Radopholus similis originated (Firman 1970, 1971), and of course it was in fiji that Myscosphaerella musicola was first observed in epidemic proportions, from which event the name Sigatoka disease was derived.
