William 'Bill' Mott came from generations of farmers/graziers who never wanted anything else but to own their own land. Hard work, family and the sense of community were pitted against the harsh reality of this ancient land and its climate of drought and flooding rain. Overseas wars had taken many of their own, but they had to believe it was for the greater good, for the safety of the land they worked and the preservation of a history and culture they held dear. But then rural Australia was hit by a tsunami of institutional dishonesty, greed and corruption, poor bureaucratic legislation, and conflicted and complicit governments. Bill Mott had trusted his bank and lost everything: his land, his home, his livelihood, his future, his children's inheritance and his marriage. But giving up was not in Bill Mott's DNA. Australians were unaware of how much Australian-owned agriculture had been lost; how many farming families and their communities had perished; and how Australia's food and water security was endangered. For Bill Mott, it was a seven-year battle before he beat the bank, but the fight was about more than that; because 'the Bureaucracy, Bankers and Bastards' should never be allowed to win.

Fleeced written by David Craig and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-25 with Political Science categories.

Over the past decade some £3 trillion - equivalent to £50,000 for every person in Britain - has been taken from us by the ruling elites. Half was wasted in a splurge of poorly-managed public spending in the 'boom', while the other half evaporated in the 'bust' - siphoned off by city bonuses, vaporised by a collapse in pension savings and extorted to bail out the banking sector. In their explosive new book, David Craig and Matthew Elliott trace where the money has gone and who has become richer as a result. They name and shame the 'guilty': the incompetent bureaucrats that fail to deliver the services the taxpayer deserves; the multitude of ineffective regulators and watchdogs; the politicians that have betrayed our democracy and enriched themselves; and the self-serving and arrogant city bankers. Moreover, they calculate the enormous debt that awaits the British taxpayer as a result of our rulers' avarice and economic mismanagement. Fleeced! charts the greatest impoverishment and tax swindle of the public in British history.

This is a history of the Canadian Bankers Association, a Canadian trade association unlike any other. Its origins are linked to deficiencies in Canada's Bank Act, 1871 and policies distancing the federal government from demands for assistance from weak banks and their victims--depositors, note holders and investors. Bank failures in the 1870s and 1880s added weight to calls for safer banks and more government regulation, pressure many bankers feared would cause reforms undermining the flexibility the Bank Act allowed them to exercise in their day to day business. A small number of prominent bankers avoided this danger by proposing a fund all banks would to contribute for the protection of note holders. They also suggested a bankers' association to guard the interests of the fund's contributors and ultimately the public. When bankers launched their organization, it had specific, yet unwritten, obligations to the federal government. It was supposed to make banking safer and, under pressure from the finance department, limit competition for deposits, a business the government was involved in through its Post Office and Dominion Savings Banks. This thesis will trace the role of the CBA between 1891 and 1924 and show it was anything but a "cozy cartel," as some scholars have alleged. Competition and rivalry divided Canadian bankers and produced a feckless trade association that could do little to meet calls from governments and those that elected them for safer banks. For Canadian bankers and their association, failure soured relations with politicians and sowed the seeds of public cynicism, leaving a legacy that has shaped the way Canadian governments make bank policy.

Japan's economy, once the envy of the world, has recently experienced a period of malaise and stagnation. This is due in part to over-regulation and resistance to change within the Japanese bureaucracy. Many argue that this bureaucracy must be replaced with a system similar to that in the United States, involving ruthless competition, fluid job markets unhindered by notions of lifetime employment, tolerance of business failures, and the elevation of conflict over consensus in economic decision making. The author argues that not only will the bureaucracy, in the form of the Ministry of Finance, retain its position, it will also evolve to be more consistent with the transformed economic system allowing the Japanese economy to recover and retain its important role in the global economy. The book details the history of the Ministry of Finance and Japan's financial markets since World War II. It describes the economic crisis in Asia and Japan's attempts to transform its bureaucracy to better compete in the global arena. Economists, business practitioners, trade specialists, and anyone interested in Japan's role in the world economy will find this lucid and detailed book an invaluable resource.
