International Banking For A New Century written by Irene Finel-Honigman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-12 with Business & Economics categories.

This new textbook provides an up-to-date overview of international banking as the second decade of the twenty-first century unfolds. Integrating geo-economic, operational, institutional and regulatory changes in the financial sector, the volume’s methodology incorporates specific case studies and research, combining theory with practical examples to illustrate the impact and consequences of past and present financial crises. The volume considers the core aspects of international banking, including its structural and technical features, historical context, institutional evolution in core markets, and wholesale, retail, investment and private banking. It uses specific examples from past and present literature, post-2008 case studies and histories, and research materials, offering a fully updated overview of how international banks respond to global crises, the origin, efficacy and evolution of financial markets, and the regulatory framework within which they function. One chapter is devoted to the evolution and potential of new markets, including the financial sectors of the BRICS and other emerging economies. Each chapter examines background, causes, impact and resolution, focusing on specific cases and their broader implications for the sector. This textbook is a guide to the new, and at times unchartered, landscape to be navigated by large domestic, cross-regional and global banks, and will be invaluable reading for students of finance, business and economics, as well as for those in the financial sector.

The existence of financial intermediaries is arguably an artifact of information asymmetry. Beyond simple financial transactions, financial intermediation provides a mechanism for information transmission, which can reduce the degree of information asymmetry and consequently increase market efficiency. During the process of information transmission, the bank is able to provide unique services in the production and exchange of information. Therefore, banks have comparative advantages in information production, transmission, and utilisation. This book provides an overview of commercial banking and includes empirical methods in banking such risk and bank performance, capital regulation, bank competition and foreign bank entry, bank regulation on bank performance, and capital adequacy and deposit insurance.

The role of international banks within the developed economies has come under increasingly hostile public scrutiny, yet little attention has been paid to the structure and purpose of the banks themselves. Most existing studies concentrate on the part played by international banks as intermediaries in the domestic and international economy, failing to consider the foremost concern of the banks themselves – their success as business enterprises. This book examines the practical problems faced by the Universal Multinational banks (UMNBs) in the fields of strategic planning and business development. It explains the common constraints encountered by the UMNBs, showing that, whether they like it or not, current market pressures are governing their policies in all the developed economies. Through studying the management structures and business policies of these banks this book provides a much clearer picture of their activities in the world economy. Initially, it concentrates on the UMNBs of the USA since they have provided a strategic model for other global banking concerns. The UMNBs of Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Canada and Switzerland are then discussed to establish their similarities and differences: case studies are included at the end of each chapter to illustrate and reinforce the points made in the preceding text. Although written in 1984 the author successfully predicted many of the subsequent developments in the field of information technology and competition in world markets, which led to the emergence of global financial enterprises.

Institutional Banking For Emerging Markets written by Wei-Xin Huang and has been published by Wiley this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-04-04 with Business & Economics categories.

In today's competitive banking industry, institutional banking is attracting greater interest. Under the globalization umbrella, inter-bank business is undergoing dynamic change and is transcending the boundaries of traditional correspondent banking. In today's climate, no bank, regardless of size, can grow without the cooperation of other banks and no bank can hope to survive and prosper without utilizing emerging markets. Institutional banking in emerging countries has some unique functions: for example, problem solving is heavier and more crucial in emerging markets than in developed countries, given the irregularity of the market and non-transparency of the financial/legal systems. Moreover, it is particularly necessary to forge good relationships, day-to-day contact and personal communication, to provide better chances for product marketing and risk management. Products are therefore tailor-made and adapted as the situation dictates, a successful lesson for one case in one country cannot necessarily be repeated in another. Huang provides a systematic framework for the subject combining both principles and practice. The direct experience of the author, allows him to write authoritatively about the subject with academic vigour as well as a large amount of practical knowledge which only a practitioner can provide. The book contains numerous real life examples and case studies to allow the reader an insight into how Institutional Banking actually works in the real world. The book also contains a supplementary CD which includes chapter summary's and further information. Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.
