These two books (Basic Discipleship Lessons and its companion Basic Discipleship Lessons - Additional Resources) have been designed to guide the new believer in their first steps as a disciple of Jesus as they prepare for baptism and then membership in the Church of the Nazarene. Both resources are part of Level B of the ABCDE Discipleship Plan. The Basic Discipleship Lessons contain the lessons that are studied weekly, a guide for the disciple, and a guide for the discipler. The lessons help us learn from the Bible while guiding the new disciple to put each new teaching into practice in their life. The Additional Resources book contains resources to delve into the topics of study, such as how to do daily devotions, how to read the Bible and learn from it, and a dictionary of Christian words.

The Living Victoriously booklet is a 7-week study from BCF. Based completely on Scriptures, it is a practical look at everyday problems - their purpose in our lives, how we can overcome them, and walk daily in victory in the midst of trials, in the power of the Holy Spririt. Living Victoriously teaches the basics of: • The hope we can have as we go through difficult times • How and why God allows trials in our life • Practical biblical principles for change • How to practice those principles in our daily walk with Christ Living Victoriously is in a workbook format, and focuses on practical application in your daily life, providing passages for you to look up, and spaces for you to answer questions. It can be used as a personal devotional, as a one-on-one study, or in a small-group setting. Jesus did not tell His disciples that their problems would go away if they followed Him. In fact, He prepared them for battle, telling them what they would face, and taught them how to walk through those trials in victory, being Himself the ultimate demonstration of victorious living. Jesus also taught the disciples these things so that they could, in turn, teach others. This short course is about Christians living victoriously in the daily battles and struggles of life. It is also about how to come alongside and help others through those challenging times. This course will cover the following topics: • Understanding tests, temptations, and problems biblically • The biblical view of “self” • Biblical hope • Biblical change: dealing with problems God’s way • Biblical practice: our daily walk with Christ • Biblical discipleship: coming alongside others Believers need to see how to have victory in the midst of problems with relationships, temptations to fear and worry, depression, life-dominating habit patterns and so on. Living victoriously in the midst of life’s challenges is only possible with the resources that the Lord has provided to us as believers in the empowering of the Holy Spirit. This course will help you learn what those resources are, and provides the basic biblical principles for victory, and then how to apply them in overcoming the daily problems of life. Finally, this training will help you know how to encourage others to do the same.

For we are God's fellow-workers; you are God's field, God's building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 1 Corinthians 3:9-10 When someone starts to build a house, he first lays the foundation on which the rest of the house will be built. If the foundation is not built correctly, the rest of the building will be compromised, affecting not only its immediate use but also its longevity. The previous scripture states that the church must also lay a good foundation in new believers. The Bible contains specific teachings that form the foundation of the Christian faith. To overlook even one of these teachings will affect how we perceive the rest of the Christian faith. An obvious example is to teach judgment without mercy, a teaching which causes the church to be legalistic. However, to teach mercy without judgment causes the church to give license to sin. Both teachings are essential, for the one teaching balances the other. When a person accepts Jesus as his Savior and Lord, most churches place the person in their ongoing programs, with the hope that he will grow. However, a new believer does not share the foundational truths that mature Christians have. The minister may make statements which out of context will appear harsh, but are not harsh when placed in the context of other accepted teachings. For this reason, the church must give new believers a foundation which will allow for a balance, in regard to the teachings to which they will be exposed. Basic Discipleship 101 is written to give new born believers the foundation on which they can build their Christian faith. In this collection of studies, we will examine what it means to become a Christian, identify the principle players in salvation, and examine the elementary truths on which the sermons they will be exposed to will be built upon. Welcome to Basic Discipleship 101.

Why This Workbook? The title of this book, From Disciple to Disciple, describes its purpose and function. The knowledge and experiences of existing disciples will be imparted from the more mature disciple to the less experienced disciple - from disciple to disciple. A disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ. Disciples of Jesus are to be growing to become more like Him. Existing disciples are the instruments God has chosen to be making new disciples. More mature disciples are the instruments God has chosen to teach less mature disciples. The task of making disciples is the purpose of the church. In many ways the task of making disciples comprises the scope of, the Christian Church. Each and every follower of Jesus is to have making disciples as clearly in focus in every aspect of life. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8 This book is a tool to equip existing Christian disciples to easily and effectively communicate some basic truths foundational to every new follower of Jesus. What is in this book? The book contains 10 chapters/lessons with each chapter containing two sections. 1) The first section in each chapter, the bulk of material is a lesson plan/guide for the teacher. 2) The second section is fill-in-the-blank handout for the student. The topics have been selected assuming that the person being taught has expressed faith in Jesus for salvation but has little, if any, Bible knowledge. Each lesson addresses foundational Biblical truth essential to the vigorous growth every follower Jesus. Each lesson is also designed to provide encouragement for even the most mature believer as they share the cherished truths. Thus, upon completing each lesson both the teacher and the student will find themselves refreshed and stimulated in their faith. As a result, whether teaching or being taught each one should experience growth in their relationship with Jesus as they work through the lessons together. The teacher's lesson plan/guide identifies Bible texts upon which that lesson was based. It also lists the objectives the lesson is intended to accomplish in the life of the student. The lesson plan provides prompts for the teacher indicating when to ask the student a question or when to read a particular text of scripture. The student handout and the teacher's lesson plan correspond to each other. Underlined text in the teacher's guide indicates that there is a fill-in-the-blank in the student worksheet. This enables the teacher to easily prompt the student to complete the worksheet. How to Use This Book The lesson design is intended to be easy to follow and comfortable to use by someone who has no teaching experience. Yet it is a valuable tool for even the most seasoned of teachers. Designed to Equip From Disciple to Disciple is designed so that after a person has been taught all the lessons they will be able to use the book to begin teaching other. Ideally the teacher will present a copy of the workbook to the student and encourage them to teach someone else the lessons. It is a basic premise of discipleship that the one who teaches is the one who learns and grows the most. A disciple is always learning and should be always teaching others what they have learned.

Have we over complicated, over systematized, and over formalized making disciples? When our hearts are changed by Christ, it’s natural that we should want to help others come to know Him too. In Walk with Me, you’ll return to the essential biblical practices that help people grow as Christ-followers in simple, slow, and deep ways. Learn how you can connect with your neighbors, coworkers, or anyone you want to reach with the gospel in ways that are relational and Spirit-led. Rooted in Jesus Junior is a practical and interactive discipleship programme for Africa, written for use with children aged 8 to 14. Designed for use in Sunday Schools, for confirmation preparation and primary or secondary schools, Rooted in Jesus Junior has been adopted by many of the dioceses and networks already using the Rooted in Jesus adult programme. Many leaders have said that Rooted in Jesus Junior offers the first Christian curriculum that they have had for use with children. Rooted in Jesus Junior is contained in six short leader's booklets, translated into the children's first language. In order to allow the children time and space to absorb the material in appropriate ways, each lesson of the adult course has been adapted to form two lessons in the Junior version. Each lesson includes simple interactive activities using commonly available materials, and the only additional resource required is a Bible. The emphasis is placed not on factual learning but on helping the children to apply what they are being taught to their daily lives. Like Rooted in Jesus, Rooted in Jesus Junior is endorsed by the Anglican Communion.
