How does religion shape the modern battlefield? Ron E. Hassner proposes that religion acts as a force multiplier, both enabling and constraining military operations. This is true not only for religiously radicalized fighters but also for professional soldiers. In the last century, religion has influenced modern militaries in the timing of attacks, the selection of targets for assault, the zeal with which units execute their mission, and the ability of individual soldiers to face the challenge of war. Religious ideas have not provided the reasons why conventional militaries fight, but religious practices have influenced their ability to do so effectively. In Religion on the Battlefield, Hassner focuses on the everyday practice of religion in a military context: the prayers, rituals, fasts, and feasts of the religious practitioners who make up the bulk of the adversaries, bystanders, and observers during armed conflicts. To show that religious practices have influenced battlefield decision making, Hassner draws most of his examples from major wars involving Western militaries. They include British soldiers in the trenches of World War I, U.S. pilots in World War II, and U.S. Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hassner shows that even modern, rational, and bureaucratized military organizations have taken—and must take—religious practice into account in the conduct of war.

There is hope in this life we live and there is a way to have faith and victory through Jesus Christ and having a relationship with Him that is close than a brother and loving like Father ,Abba Father. He is kind merciful, loving, giving, wonderful, and always hears our prayers. He is THE I AM . He is everything good. He is always in the storm with us. It takes faith to make it through the trials that we face each day and though sometimes we would rather just leave the troubles behind and run and hide in a hole and forget the world exists, but you know when you finally "wake up" and realize the problem is still there and like David faced Goliath ( our giants) so must we, but we are not in this by ourselves and David wasn't either. God put it in his heart to go against the Philistine giant. David knew going in that he had the faith and that God would deliver him from the giant. He even told the giant that God will deliver you into our hands . So when we have our "giants" whether it be debt, depression, anxiety , etc..face with the faith that He is right there with you. There's not a battle that He is not right there with you. Sometimes He just delivers us away from the issue He teaches you why it's there and shows you how to deal with it and "break up" with the fear of it. You know the saying give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will always eat. Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all and whomever chooses will have weapons to fight against life's battles. God teaches us through His Holy Spirit ( His Word ) how to live life and how to follow His leading. How to deal with the issues and problems that arise in our lives. We all have free will and we have choices, it's up to us what we do with these choices and free will. Evil happens , but this is through free will and choice people choose to do what they do. My prayer is that this book lead you to a better understanding. To understand that we don't have to succumb to the battles with the hopelessness feelings of despair, and defeat , God did not put the spirit of fear on the inside of us, He put the Resurrection Power on the inside of us and no battle is lost , we just get a refreshing from God's strength because He says that the battle's already won, we just need to pray and rejoice in what He's doing and has already done. Rejoice in Him always and the joy will arise within you and push out the dark gloom and despair that try to take hold. We sometimes believe that we fight against human flesh and that some people are just downright mean and evil, yes some are. We must realize though that what controls them and directs their paths is not of God, but fleshly desires , that are enhanced by demonic spirits that whisper lies that seem believable through various untruths and wrong teachings. We listen to these lies as it were and begin the journey of anger, bitterness, hate , envy etc. It turns into a lifetime pity party that builds up on the inside and causes a spill over into our lives causing stress, anxiety , fear and depression. These build up and into the creases of our mind in places we didn't know existed in our hearts as it were. Hate then builds up in the heart and it turns into evil thoughts , anger and hatred. It's prayer that gets us through the battles ! Rejoice in that.
