Helen Wan's "engaging and suspenseful" (Wall Street Journal) debut novel, The Partner Track, is now a Netflix series! Ingrid Yung's life is full of firsts. A first-generation Chinese American, the first lawyer in her family, she's about to collect the holy grail of "firsts" and become the first minority woman to make partner at the venerable old Wall Street law firm Parsons Valentine & Hunt. Ingrid has perfected the art of "passing" and seamlessly blends into the old-boy corporate culture. She gamely banters in the corporate cafeteria, plays in the firm softball league, and earnestly racks up her billable hours. But when an offensive incident at the summer outing threatens the firm's reputation, Ingrid's outsider status is suddenly thrown into sharp relief. Scrambling to do damage control, Parsons Valentine announces a new Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, commanding Ingrid to spearhead the effort. Only she's about to close an enormous transaction that was to be her final step in securing partnership. For the first time, Ingrid must question her place in the firm. Pitted against her colleagues, including her golden-boy boyfriend, Ingrid begins to wonder whether the prestige of partnership is worth breaching her ethics. But can she risk throwing away the American dream that is finally within her reach?

"Like the popular earlier editions, the fourth edition of A Lawyer Writes puts the reader in the place of a first-year attorney faced with real-life assignments. In doing so, it teaches law students not only how to succeed in law school, but also how to succeed in the practice of law. Using graphics and visual samples that demonstrate both effective and ineffective analytical techniques, this updated edition illustrates best practices for objective legal analysis and provides an overview of the transition from objective to persuasive writing. The content and examples in the fourth edition have been supplemented, updated, and reorganized to provide an easy-to-use, step-by-step approach for learning legal analysis and objective writing. A Lawyer Writes aims to provide clear and concrete instruction about each facet of legal analysis, using the same order students will follow when performing the tasks in legal practice. The textbook also provides the relevant theory and background behind the choices attorneys make in their legal writing, enabling students to transfer those techniques to future settings. Speaking to its readers in a straightforward manner, A Lawyer Writes communicates essential skills and theories students can use throughout a lifetime of legal practice"--

From Wig And Pen To Computer written by Eric Stockdale and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Lawyers categories.

The book focuses on Eric Stockdale, the legal author, who has written many articles and books. For those who do not have time to read the stimulating originals, he explains how he came to write about a particular subject, almost always because of a personal concern about or personal interest in it. This book is about his experiences as a legal author, it also deals briefly with his life in the law and describes how he became interested in the different subjects about which he wrote. The book is not exactly an autobiography, but it is autobiographical. Its avowed purpose is to focus on the author’s experience as a writer rather than his practice at the Bar or his work as a judge, although from time to time, inevitably there is an overlap. The more recent writings have focussed on issues of history, and in particular the history of events in the latter half of the eighteenth century, and the birth and early years of the United States of America. It is not yet appreciated that some of the most influential and active supporters of the then ‘Revolution’ were educated at the Inn’s of Court in London, largely at the Middle Temple, and that there is indeed a ‘special relationship’ between lawyers and judges on both sides of the Atlantic, which is less susceptible to the vagaries of political fashion or of the affairs of nations which can sometimes mark other aspects of the relationship.Reading between the lines written by a modest man, this is a remarkable story by any standards. The reader, whether lawyer or layman, is likely to concur with that judgment.

'Masterful, compassionate and hilarious' – Adam Rutherford In a diary that takes us behind the scenes of their middling ambition, Nothing But The Truth charts an outsider's progress down the winding path towards practising at the Bar. By way of the painfully archaic traditions of the Inns of Court, where every meal mandates a glass of port and a toast to the monarch, and the Hunger Games-style contest for pupillage - which most don't survive - here is the brilliant reality of being a frustrated junior barrister. With a keen eye for the absurd and an obsessive fondness for Twitter, SB reveals the uncomfortable truths and darkest secrets about life in our criminal courts. _____ ‘Words tumble out with extraordinary fluency . . . entertaining and instructive’ – The Times ‘Written with compassion, wit and intelligence’ – TLS ‘Excellent . . . at once a vicious polemic, a helpful primer and a cringe-inducing account of one barrister's travails' – The Telegraph
