Finite Element Analysis Of Beam To Beam Contact written by Przemyslaw Litewka and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-24 with Science categories.

Phenomena occurring during a contact of two bodies are encountered in everyday life. In reality almost every type of motion is related to frictional contact between a moving body and a ground. Moreover, modeling of simple and more complex processes as nailing, cutting, vacuum pressing, movement of machines and their elements, rolling or, finally, a numerical simulation of car crash tests, requires taking contact into account. Therefore, its analysis has been a subject of many research efforts for a long time now. However, it is author’s opinion that there are relatively few efforts related to contact between structural elements, like beams, plates or shells. The purpose of this work is to fill this gap. It concerns the beam-to-beam contact as a specific case of the 3D solids contact. A numerical formulation of frictional contact for beams with two shapes of cross-section is derived. Further, a couple of effective methods for modeling of smooth curves representing beam axes are presented. A part of the book is also devoted to analyze some aspects of thermo-electro-mechanical coupling in contact of thermal and electric conductors. Analyses in every chapter are illustrated with numerical examples showing the performance of derived contact finite elements.

Laser Beam Shaping Applications written by Fred M. Dickey and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-07-26 with Science categories.

The practice of shaping the irradiance profile of laser beams goes back more than three decades, and the applications of beam shaping are as diverse as they are numerous. However, until Dickey and Holswade's groundbreaking and highly popular Laser Beam Shaping: Theory and Techniques was published, there was no single, detailed treatment available on the underlying theory and basic techniques of beam shaping. Building on the foundations of this previous work, these esteemed editors have teamed with recognized expert David L. Shealy to produce the first in-depth account of beam shaping applications and design. Laser Beam Shaping Applications details the important features of beam shaping and exposes the subtleties of the theory and techniques that are best demonstrated through proven applications. In chapters contributed by prominent, active leaders in their respective specialties, the book discusses applications in lithography, laser printing, optical data storage, stable isotope separation, adaptive mirrors, and spatially dispersive lasers. The contributors share major insights, knowledge, and experience, reveal the advantages of the technologies, and include extensive references to the literature. The book concludes with a summary of beam shaping theory and techniques as well as the history of the field. Providing practical expertise, Laser Beam Shaping Applications is an extremely helpful guide to improving current laser processes, optimizing application-specific technologies, and advancing future development in the field.

Determination Of Total X Ray Beam Energy With A Calibrated Ionization Chamber written by John S. Pruitt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1962 with Ionization chambers categories.

This report describes the use of an air-filled aluminum-alloy ionization chamber to determine the energy transported by a bremsstrahlung beam with maximum photon energy in the range 6 to 170 Mev. The experimental calibrations of this chamber over this energy range are given, as well as the results of calibration experiments made with a 250-kv constant-potential X-ray tube and with Cs137 and Co60 gamma-rays. Information is presented about the change in calibration when the chamber is used with different experimental conditions, and when either its dimensions or its alloy composition are changed slightly. This report can be used to construct a replica chamber and to determine its absolute calibration between 6 and 170 Mev under a variety of experimental conditions.

Materials science is the prime example of an interdisciplinary science. It - compasses the ?elds of physics, chemistry, material science, electrical en- neering, chemical engineering and other disciplines. Success has been o- standing. World-class accomplishments in materials have been recognized by NobelprizesinPhysicsandChemistryandgivenrisetoentirelynewtechno- gies. Materials science advances have underpinned the technology revolution that has driven societal changes for the last ?fty years. Obviouslytheendisnotinsight!Futuretechnology-basedproblemsd- inatethecurrentscene.Highonthelistarecontrolandconservationofenergy and environment, water purity and availability, and propagating the inf- mation revolution. All fall in the technology domain. In every case proposed solutions begin with new forms of materials, materials processing or new arti?cial material structures. Scientists seek new forms of photovoltaics with greater e?ciency and lower cost. Water purity may be solved through surface control, which promises new desalination processes at lower energy and lower cost. Revolutionary concepts to extend the information revolution reside in controlling the “spin” of electrons or enabling quantum states as in quantum computing. Ion-beam experts make substantial contributions to all of these burgeoning sciences.

Thin Walled Composite Beams written by Liviu Librescu and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-11-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This is the first monograph devoted to the foundation of the theory of composite anisotropic thin-walled beams and to its applications in various problems involving the aeronautical/aerospace, helicopter, naval and mechanical structures. Throughout the theoretical part, an effort was made to provide the treatment of the subject by using the equations of the 3-D elasticity theory. Non-classical effects such as transverse shear, warping constraint, anisotropy of constituent materials yielding the coupling of twist-bending (lateral), bending (transversal)-extension have been included and their implications have been thoroughly analyzed. Thermal effects have been included and in order to be able to circumvent their deleterious effects, functionally graded materials have been considered in their construction. Implications of the application of the tailoring technique and of the active feedback control on free vibration, dynamic response, instability and aeroelasticity of such structures have been amply investigated. Special care was exercised throughout this work to address and validate the adopted solution methodologies and the obtained results against those available in the literature and obtained via numerical or experimental means.

Many engineering problems can be solved using a linear approximation. In the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) the set of equations, describing the structural behaviour is then linear K d = F (1.1) In this matrix equation, K is the stiffness matrix of the structure, d is the nodal displacements vector and F is the external nodal force vector. Characteristics of linear problems is that the displacements are proportional to the loads, the stiffness of the structure is independent on the value of the load level. Though behaviour of real structures is nonlinear, e.g. displacements are not proportional to the loads; nonlinearities are usually unimportant and may be neglected in most practical problems.

Static And Dynamic Shear Behavior Of Uniformly Loaded Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams written by Robert A. Crist and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with Concrete beams categories.

Behavioral equations were developed for reinforced concrete deep beams, especially in the realm of shear capacity. A series of static and dynamic beam tests was performed to aid in the development of this objective. Static shear behavior equations for deep beams were derived on the lower boundary of reinforced concrete deep beam data represented by research from this report and other research comprising 73 tests. Equations for a total static shear capacity are given which conservatively predict shear capacities of the beam tests considered. (Author).
