Rights And Redemption written by Ann Curthoys and has been published by UNSW Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with History categories.

History has been central to a number of heated public debates in recent years. As Indigenous people have sought redress through the law, the role of history in the courts has become highly charged. Rights and Redemption is a detailed investigation of the uses of history and historians in high-profile cases involving Indigenous litigants, something not previously attempted. Ann Curthoys, Ann Genovese and Alexander Reilly look at cases before the Federal Court during the era of the Howard government, a time when Indigenous rights and the place of Aboriginal people in the national story were undermined in government laws and policies. They investigate how the courts have made use of historians as expert witnesses, and how the colonial past has been framed and understood by the courts. Rights and Redemption is an important record of a unique period of litigation in Indigenous affairs in Australia and a meditation on ways in which law and history might improve Indigenous rights. Will Caleb and Delanie give love a second chance? Buy today to find out! -- REVIEWS: “A breath of fresh air.” - Jessica Renwick, author of the Starlight Inn series “Endearing characters, a beautifully executed plot, and a homey fall setting.” - Brenna Bailey, author of the Juniper Creek series “What a cute story! Realistic, charming characters, a lot of sweet, heartfelt moments, and a HEA. Great choice!” - Jacqueline C., advance reader “Has a real Hallmark-y type vibe to it, and I love those types of stories. I’m so excited for the next book of this series!” - Shannon S., advance reader “These two deserve a second chance. Love this couple. First book by this author and I will read her again.” - Patty Duplechin, Advance Reader EXCERPT: “Look. First star of the night…” Caleb pointed out the living room picture window and helped Delanie to her feet, pulling her to come stand next to him. “Make a wish.” Delanie gave him a long, uncertain look, then glanced at the pinpoint of white light before closing her eyes for several long seconds. He stared at her, drinking in her presence, knowing she couldn’t feel uncomfortable about his gaze if she couldn’t see it. Her eyes fluttered open, and she blushed. “Were you looking at me the whole time?” His face warmed. “Maybe,” he mumbled. “Didn’t you make a wish?” He shook his head. “I don’t need to. My wish is standing right here.” He pulled her into him and enveloped her in his arms. She stiffened, then relaxed and wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning into his chest. “I have a confession to make,” he said. “I never got over you. Not for a single second.” After a pause, she said, “A wish isn’t enough to overcome all the obstacles between us.” “No. But it’s enough to make me believe we could. This time, I have no intention of letting you go anywhere without me. Whatever happens, I want to give us a fair shot.” -- Keywords: small town romance, Hallmark movies, sweet romance, clean and wholesome romance, second chance romance, theatre romance, single dad romance, Canadian literature, books set in Alberta, happily for now, HFN, romance series

A World That Was written by Ronald Murray Berndt and has been published by UBC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with History categories.

This extraordinary book, written from material gathered over half a century ago, will almost certainly be the last fine-grained account of traditional Aboriginal life in settled south-eastern Australia. It recreates the world of the Yaraldi group of the Kukabrak or Narrinyeri people of the Lower Murray and Lakes region of South Australia. In 1939 Albert Karloan, a Yaraldi man, urged a young ethnologist, Ronald Berndt, to set up camp at Murray Bridge and to record the story of his people. Karloan and Pinkie Mack, a Yaraldi woman, possessed through personal experience, not merely through hearsay, an all but complete knowledge of traditional life. They were virtually the last custodians of that knowledge and they felt the burden of their unique situation. This book represents their concerted efforts to pass on the story to future generations. For Ronald and Catherine Berndt, this was their first fieldwork together in an illustrious joint career of almost fifty years. During long periods, principally until 1943, they laboured with pencil and paper to put it all down - a far cry from the recording techniques of today's oral historians. Their fieldnotes were worked into a rough draft of what would become, but not until recently, the finished manuscript. The book's range is encyclopaedic and engrossing - sometimes dramatic. It encompasses relations between and among individuals and clan groups, land tenure, kinship, the subsistence economy, trade, ceremony, councils, fighting and warfare, rites of passage from conception to death, myths, and beliefs and practices concerning healing and the supernatural. Not least, it is a record of the dramatic changes following European colonization. A World That Was is a unique contribution to Australia's cultural history. There is simply no comparable body of work, nor is there ever likely to be.

The Emerald Sea written by Richelle Mead and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-26 with Young Adult Fiction categories.

The final installment in Richelle Mead's sweeping, enthralling Glittering Court series answers the trilogy's biggest question: what is the secret that drives Tamsin to win at all costs? Tamsin Wright is unstoppable. She must become the Glittering Court's diamond: the girl with the highest test scores, the most glamorous wardrobe, and the greatest opportunities to match with an elite suitor in the New World. Training alongside other girls in the Glittering Court, Tamsin immerses herself completely in lessons about etiquette, history, and music--everything a high-society wife would need to know. Once she's married, she'll be able to afford a better life for her family, so the sacrifice is worth it if she can be the best. When her friendship with Mira and Adelaide, her roommates at the Glittering Court, threatens her status as the top-ranked prospect, she does the only thing she knows will keep her on track: she cuts them out of her life. But when her voyage across the sea goes off course, Tamsin must use her unrelenting grit and determination to survive the harsh winter far north of her intended destination in hopes of making it back to the Glittering Court in time to secure a proposal--and a comfortable future for her family. Experiencing new cultures and beliefs for the first time, Tamsin realizes that her careful studies haven't prepared her for everything, and with new alliances formed with roguish tradesman Jago Robinson and good-natured minister Gideon Stewart, Tamsin's heart begins to be pulled in different directions. But she can't let her brewing attraction get in the way of her ultimate goal: protecting the secret she holds closest to her heart, the one that would unravel everything she's worked for if it's uncovered.
